## What it does

The skill hands the agent X formatting rules: 280 characters for a standard post, 25,000 for Premium, links counted as 23 characters after t.co shortening, roughly 2 characters per emoji. For engagement it keeps length targets — 71–100 characters for a general post, 120–130 for promotional copy, 60–80 for a question. A thread is built from 3–5 connected posts numbered 1/5, 2/5 and so on, with a strong hook up front and a call to reply at the end.

There is an algorithm breakdown too. Replies carry the most weight, author replies in a chain lift visibility, and external links cut the score by about half, so the skill advises putting the link in a reply rather than the main post. Separate tables cover TweepCred, distribution, how Premium tiers change reach, video, and a content mix of 70% value, 20% interaction, 10% promo. Design agents get image dimensions: 1200×675 for a single image, 800×800 for a square, 1500×500 for a header.

Output is post text with a character count, hashtags, thread structure and image specs. This is copywriting, not long-form writing — the skill description points to `article-content` for that. If X is not a core channel for you, the Premium reach numbers and link rules will not change much, so decide whether you are publishing there at all before installing.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill twitter-x-posts -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill x -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/x/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/x/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill x -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/x/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill x -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/x/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install kostja94/marketing-skills x
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/x/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill x -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/kostja94/marketing-skills --path skills/platforms/x
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/x/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill x -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/kostja94/marketing-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/platforms/x/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write an X post that fits the character limit
- build a numbered thread from connected posts
- pick a length that matches the goal: promo, question, repost
- figure out where a link should go so reach does not drop
- hand a designer the right image dimensions for a post

## Example prompts
- Write an X post about our new release, keep it under 120 characters
- Draft a 5-post thread about how we rewrote the backend
- Make a promo post with a link and tell me where to place it

# Platforms: X (Twitter)

Guides X post copy creation and optimization. Use for generating publish-ready posts, threads, and content that performs on X. Suitable for copy agents, design agents (image specs), and video agents (video post specs).

**When invoking**: On **first use**, if helpful, open with 1-2 sentences on what this skill covers and why it matters, then provide the main output. On **subsequent use** or when the user asks to skip, go directly to the main output.

## Output: Publish-Ready Copy

This skill enables agents to generate X post copy that can be published directly. Output includes character-counted text, thread structure, and platform-compliant formatting.

## Character Limits

| Type | Limit | Notes |
|------|-------|-------|
| **Standard post** | 280 characters | Most users |
| **Premium** | 25,000 characters | X Premium subscribers |
| **URL** | Counts as 23 chars | t.co shortens all links |
| **Emoji** | ~2 chars each | Varies by emoji |

## Optimal Lengths (Engagement)

| Use Case | Characters | Purpose |
|----------|------------|---------|
| **General** | 71-100 | Sweet spot for engagement |
| **Promotional** | 120-130 | Product/offer posts |
| **Question** | 60-80 | Drive replies |
| **Retweet-friendly** | ~116 | Leaves room for "RT @user:" |

## Thread Format

- **Structure**: 3-5 connected posts; number as 1/5, 2/5, etc.
- **First post**: Strong hook; no "thread" in first line
- **Last post**: CTA, summary, or question
- **Each post**: ~80 chars; can stand alone

## Post Structure (Hook + Value + CTA)

| Part | Ratio | Guideline |
|------|-------|-----------|
| **Hook** | 10% | First 1-2 lines; question, fact, or emotion; ~50 chars |
| **Value** | 70% | Practical info; use thread for depth |
| **CTA** | 20% | Call for reply, question, or action |

End with open question to drive replies. Thread structure can extend impressions ~10x.

## Algorithm (Grok AI)

### Signal Weights

| Signal | Impact |
|--------|--------|
| **Replies** | Highest (~54-75x likes); quality > quantity |
| **Author replies** | Active reply chains ~75x visibility |
