# turbo-operations

A reference for running Turbo pipelines: pause, restart, delete, pipeline states, checkpoints and error lookup. Handy when a pipeline breaks or an error needs decoding.

## What it does

The skill answers questions about the Goldsky Turbo pipeline lifecycle. It ships a state table (`running`, `starting`, `paused`, `stopped`, `error`, `completed`), the `goldsky turbo list`, `pause`, `resume`, `restart` and `delete` commands, `inspect` and `logs` syntax, TUI shortcuts, and a table of common errors with causes and fixes.

A separate section covers streaming versus job mode. Job-mode pipelines (`job: true`) support no pause, resume or restart: to update one you delete it and apply again. Auto-cleanup runs about an hour after completion. There is also a helper script, `./scripts/analyze-logs.sh <pipeline-name>`, that scans logs for common error patterns and reports recommendations.

Checkpoints are the part worth reading twice. Deleting a pipeline wipes them permanently, and recreating under the same name starts fresh. Data already written to sinks survives. If you need the checkpoints, update with `apply` instead of delete. Renaming a source or the pipeline itself also resets checkpoint state, so check names before deploying. For interactive diagnosis of a broken pipeline the description points to `/turbo-doctor`; for building new ones, `/turbo-builder`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill turbo-operations -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/turbo-operations/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/turbo-operations/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill turbo-operations -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/turbo-operations/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill turbo-operations -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/turbo-operations/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install goldsky-io/goldsky-agent turbo-operations
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/turbo-operations/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill turbo-operations -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --path skills/turbo-operations
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/turbo-operations/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill turbo-operations -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/goldsky-io/goldsky-agent/tree/HEAD/skills/turbo-operations/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- decode an error message from pipeline logs
- pause a pipeline without losing its state
- restart a pipeline and clear its checkpoints
- work out why a job-mode pipeline cannot be paused
- watch live records with `inspect`

## Example prompts
- why is my turbo pipeline in an error state?
- how do I delete a pipeline without losing data in the sinks?
- show me the last 100 log lines for my-pipeline

# Turbo Pipeline Operations

Lifecycle commands, monitoring, and error reference for running Turbo pipelines. This is a lookup reference — for interactive troubleshooting of a broken pipeline, use `/turbo-doctor`. For building new pipelines, use `/turbo-builder`.

## Pipeline States

| State     | Description                                  |
| --------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| running | Pipeline is actively processing data |
| starting  | Pipeline is initializing                     |
| paused | Pipeline is paused (replicas set to 0) |
| stopped | Pipeline is not running (manually stopped) |
| error | Pipeline encountered an error |
| completed | Job-mode pipeline finished processing range  |

## Streaming vs Job Mode Lifecycle

| Operation     | Streaming Pipeline            | Job-Mode Pipeline (`job: true`)             |
| ------------- | ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| **List**      | Shows as `running`/`paused`   | Shows as `running`/`completed`              |
| **Pause**     | Supported                     | Not supported                               |
| **Resume**    | Supported                     | Not supported                               |
| **Restart**   | Supported                     | Not supported — use delete + apply          |
| **Delete**    | Supported                     | Supported (auto-cleanup ~1hr after done)    |
| **Apply** | Updates in place | Must delete first, then re-apply |

### Job-Mode Pipeline Lifecycle

Job-mode pipelines (`job: true`) are one-time batch processes:

1. **Start** — process data from `start_at` to `end_block`
2. **Run** — process the bounded data range
3. **Complete** — automatically stop when range is processed
4. **Auto-cleanup** — ~1 hour after completion, automatically removed

Cannot pause, resume, or restart. Must delete before redeploying.

## Lifecycle Commands
