## What it does

The skill handles Trigger.dev project initialization from scratch. It runs the setup wizard or executes manual steps when working within monorepos and non-interactive environments. The workflow installs `@trigger.dev/sdk` as a runtime dependency alongside `@trigger.dev/build` for development. Then it generates `trigger.config.ts`, includes it in `tsconfig.json`, and adds `.trigger` to `.gitignore`.

Headless sessions cannot complete login automatically. The skill triggers a resumable authentication flow, prints the authorization link, and waits for your confirmation. Version alignment is critical here: running CLI tools on a different release than the SDK will cause runtime warnings or build failures during dev and deploy steps.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add triggerdotdev/skills --skill trigger-setup -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/trigger-setup/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/trigger-setup/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add triggerdotdev/skills --skill trigger-setup -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/trigger-setup/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add triggerdotdev/skills --skill trigger-setup -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/trigger-setup/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install triggerdotdev/skills trigger-setup
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/trigger-setup/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add triggerdotdev/skills --skill trigger-setup -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/triggerdotdev/skills --path trigger-setup
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/trigger-setup/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add triggerdotdev/skills --skill trigger-setup -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/triggerdotdev/skills/tree/HEAD/trigger-setup/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Initialize Trigger.dev inside an existing project
- Create `trigger.config.ts` with correct directories and project references
- Scaffold the first task with a unique identifier
- Handle CLI authentication in headless terminal environments

## Example prompts
- Set up Trigger.dev in this project and generate a sample task
- Configure Trigger.dev manually for our monorepo
- Run the Trigger.dev development server and wire environment keys
