## What it does

The skill turns the agent into a trip planner. On first run it asks about travel style, budget level, interests, accommodation, diet and languages, then keeps that in a local database. For later trips you only name the city and the dates.

Two scripts do the work: `scripts/travel_db.py` and `plan_generator.py`. The first checks whether preferences exist and saves new ones, the second splits the budget across categories. Planning runs in stages — destination research through web search (visas, season, transport, food, neighbourhoods), then a timed itinerary with costs, a packing checklist and etiquette notes.

You need `python3` for this to run at all: both the database check and the budget calculation depend on it. Destination research relies on web search, so in an offline environment the plan stays generic. In the code samples, `[SKILL_DIR]` is replaced with the real skill directory.

## Install

- File: `~/.claude/skills/travel-planner/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/travel-planner/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ailabs-393/ai-labs-claude-skills --skill travel-planner -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/travel-planner/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ailabs-393/ai-labs-claude-skills --skill travel-planner -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/travel-planner/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/ailabs-393/ai-labs-claude-skills/tree/HEAD/dist/skills/travel-planner/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a day-by-day route around fixed dates
- split a trip budget across categories
- pack for a specific climate and set of activities
- check visa rules and the best season for a destination
- store preferences once instead of repeating them

## Example prompts
- plan a week in Barcelona from June 15 to 22, budget 2500 USD
- show the budget breakdown for this trip
- what should I pack for New Zealand in November
