## What it does

The skill lays out a three-step process: a first pass with a terminology glossary, a proofreading round that checks grammar and term consistency, then a refinement pass. Idioms and cultural references get their own section, with the advice to find an equivalent rather than translate word for word.

Most of the guidance targets engineering content. Code blocks, identifiers, file paths, commands, CLI flags, URLs and frontmatter keys stay untranslated, and markup is translated only in its text nodes. Structure is preserved 1:1 — headings, lists, tables, links — so an `-en`/`-ja` pair diffs section by section. Japanese prose follows です/ます with headings in the `日本語 (English)` form; Traditional Chinese uses Taiwan terminology and sparing 成語.

Document pairs carry a rule of their own: when one side changes, the matching sections of the other are updated in the same change, translated from the side that changed, and untouched sections are left alone. For web sources the skill points to `WebFetch` on simple pages and to the `agent-browser` or `browser-use` skills on interactive ones, keeping Playwright for e2e tests. If your project doesn't involve these three languages, there is nothing here to install.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add shino369/claude-code-personal-workspace --skill translation-expertise -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/translation-expertise/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/translation-expertise/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add shino369/claude-code-personal-workspace --skill translation-expertise -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/translation-expertise/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add shino369/claude-code-personal-workspace --skill translation-expertise -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/translation-expertise/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install shino369/claude-code-personal-workspace translation-expertise
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/translation-expertise/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add shino369/claude-code-personal-workspace --skill translation-expertise -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/shino369/claude-code-personal-workspace --path .claude/skills/translation-expertise
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/translation-expertise/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add shino369/claude-code-personal-workspace --skill translation-expertise -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/shino369/claude-code-personal-workspace/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/translation-expertise/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- translate technical docs into Japanese without breaking the structure
- find an idiom equivalent instead of a literal rendering
- keep one glossary of terms across a long document
- sync `*-en.md` and `*-zh.md` pairs after an edit
- pick Taiwan terminology for Traditional Chinese

## Example prompts
- Translate this file into Japanese, leave code and paths alone, keep the structure 1:1
- Update `README-ja.md` for the sections that changed in `README-en.md`, skip the rest
- Translate the article into Traditional Chinese with Taiwan terminology, list uncertain terms at the end

# Translation Expertise

## Overview

This skill provides comprehensive translation expertise for English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. It covers translation methodologies, cultural considerations, and best practices for producing high-quality translations.

## Technical Documentation in This Workspace

Most translation here is engineering content. These rules take precedence over the general guidance below.

**Never translate**:

- Code blocks, inline code, identifiers, file paths, commands, CLI flags, URLs, frontmatter keys
- Markup and macros (HTML, JSX, Confluence storage format) — translate only the text nodes
- Severity prefixes and verdicts in review reports (⚠️ Critical, 💡 Suggestion, ❓ Question, 💅 Nit, 🎉 Praise, APPROVE / REQUEST CHANGES / BLOCK)

**Preserve structure 1:1**: same heading levels and order, lists, tables, links and anchors, so an `-en`/`-ja` (or `-zh`) pair diffs section by section.

**Japanese house style**:

- です/ます form for guidelines, specs and reports — not である調
- Keep framework and product names in English: React, Next.js, TanStack Query, Zustand, Zod, pnpm, PR
- Use the established katakana/Japanese for general concepts: コンポーネント, フック, 状態管理, デプロイ, レビュー
- Headings use `日本語 (English)` form, e.g. `コア原則 (Core Principles)`
- Full-width punctuation in Japanese prose; half-width inside code and identifiers

**Traditional Chinese house style**:

- Use 繁體中文 and Taiwan terminology by default (軟體, 網路, 資訊)
- Keep framework and product names in English
- Full-width punctuation in prose; half-width inside code and identifiers
- Use 成語 sparingly and only when it reads naturally
