## What it does

The skill explains how `transformation_builder` works. Its inputs are a natural-language query, an optional ImageKit-hosted source URL, and the error text from a previous failed call. Inside, the query goes to an ImageKit docs search, an LLM turns it into a validated list of steps, and the SDK builds the final URL. There is no capability argument — the parameter names in the skill's reference are vocabulary for your query, not fields you set. Invent a name and the docs search drifts, so the URL comes back wrong.

Most of the work is rewriting a vague request into a precise one. Instead of "make the balls green", the agent writes a query naming `ai_edit` with a prompt. The reference covers resize and crop with focus on a face or object, background removal and replacement, generative fill, upscaling, retouching, drop shadows, variations, effects such as blur, sharpen, rotation, border and gradient, plus image, text and video overlays. Three similar cases are kept apart: editing specific objects with `ai_edit`, swapping one colour everywhere with `color_replace`, and replacing the whole scene with `ai_change_background`.

For multi-step work the skill says to send one query and list the steps in order. The tool only transforms an existing source — it cannot generate an image from scratch, which lives elsewhere in the ImageKit DAM. Install is a single `npx skills add` command.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add imagekit-developer/skills --skill transformation-builder -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/transformation-builder/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/transformation-builder/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add imagekit-developer/skills --skill transformation-builder -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/transformation-builder/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add imagekit-developer/skills --skill transformation-builder -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/transformation-builder/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install imagekit-developer/skills transformation-builder
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/transformation-builder/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add imagekit-developer/skills --skill transformation-builder -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/imagekit-developer/skills --path skills/transformation-builder
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/transformation-builder/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add imagekit-developer/skills --skill transformation-builder -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/imagekit-developer/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/transformation-builder/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build an ImageKit transformation URL from a text description
- swap the background on a product photo
- cut out a subject and add a shadow beneath it
- upscale a blurry image
- overlay a logo or caption onto a picture

## Example prompts
- Build the URL: crop to the face and resize to width 800
- Remove the background from this image and add a drop shadow
- Turn this shot into an oil-painting style image

# Transformation Builder Skill

Understand how the tool works, write a precise query, order multi-step chains correctly, then call `transformation_builder`.

## How this tool actually works (read this first)

`transformation_builder` is **not** a capability picker. Its only inputs are:

```
transformation_builder(query, src?, previous_errors?)
```

- `query` — a **natural-language** description of the desired transformation.
- `src` — optional ImageKit-hosted source URL (defaults to a sample image).
- `previous_errors` — pass the error text from a prior failed call so the tool can self-correct.

Internally the tool: (1) searches ImageKit docs using your `query`, (2) an LLM turns it into a validated list of transformation steps, (3) the SDK builds the final URL. There is **no `capability` argument** — the parameter names below are **vocabulary to put into your query**, not API fields you set directly. Because step 1 is a doc search over your query text, **using the correct ImageKit parameter names and values in the query materially improves the result.** Using wrong/invented names sends the search off course.

So your job is: translate the user's vague request into a precise query that references **real** parameters and values from the reference section below.

## When to use (triggers this skill)

- Resize, crop, or focus on a region
- Filters, effects, overlays (image/text/video), watermarks
- Multi-step transformation chains
- Background removal, replacement, or generative fill
- Any AI-powered image editing (change objects/colors/styles, upscale, retouch, drop shadow, variations)
