## What it does

This skill fetches YouTube transcripts through TranscriptAPI. It accepts full and short video links, Shorts links, or a video ID, then gives the agent material for summaries, translations, quotes, research and fact checks.

Requests use text output, timestamps and video metadata by default. Use `json` when a task needs precise quote timing; disable timestamps when clean text is better for translation or analysis. Each successful request costs 1 credit.

Internet access and `TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY` are required for every API request. A `User-Agent` header is required too: Cloudflare returns 403 with code 1010 without it, so agent header setup is worth checking first.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill transcript -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/transcript/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/transcript/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill transcript -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/transcript/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill transcript -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/transcript/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills transcript
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/transcript/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill transcript -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --path clawhub/transcript
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/transcript/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill transcript -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills/tree/HEAD/clawhub/transcript/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- fetch a transcript from a YouTube link
- summarize spoken video content
- locate a quote by timestamp
- translate a video's spoken text
- fact-check a claim against a video

## Example prompts
- “Get a timestamped transcript for the YouTube video `VIDEO_URL`.”
- “Summarize the video at `VIDEO_URL` and list its main points.”
- “Find where this topic is discussed in `VIDEO_URL` and give me the timestamp.”

# Transcript

Fetch video transcripts via [TranscriptAPI.com](https://transcriptapi.com).

## Setup

If `$TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY` is not set, read [references/auth-setup.md](references/auth-setup.md) and follow the instructions there to get and store the key.

## Required Headers

Every request needs two headers:

- **Authorization:** `Bearer $TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY`
- **User-Agent:** your agent's name and version if known (e.g. `HermesAgent/0.11.0`, `ClaudeCode/1.0`). Version is optional — agent name alone is fine. Do not omit this header or send a bare default — Cloudflare will return a 403 (error code 1010) and block the request.

## GET /api/v2/youtube/transcript

```bash
curl -s "https://transcriptapi.com/api/v2/youtube/transcript\
?video_url=VIDEO_URL&format=text&include_timestamp=true&send_metadata=true" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY" \
  -H "User-Agent: YourAgent/1.0"
```

| Param               | Required | Default | Values                          |
| ------------------- | -------- | ------- | ------------------------------- |
| `video_url`         | yes      | —       | YouTube URL or 11-char video ID |
| `format`            | no       | `json`  | `json`, `text`                  |
| `include_timestamp` | no       | `true`  | `true`, `false`                 |
| `send_metadata`     | no       | `false` | `true`, `false`                 |

Accepts: full URLs (`youtube.com/watch?v=ID`), short URLs (`youtu.be/ID`), shorts (`youtube.com/shorts/ID`), or bare video IDs.

**Default:** Always use `format=text&include_timestamp=true&send_metadata=true` unless user specifies otherwise.

**Response** (`format=json`):
