## What it does

The skill hands your agent ready-made recipes for working with packet captures. It covers `pcapfix`, `editcap` and `mergecap` for repairing and merging dumps, plus a filter set for Wireshark across IP, TCP, HTTP, DNS and TLS. Protocol sections run from HTTP and SMTP down to USB HID and WiFi.

Data extraction gets its own chapters: files pulled from HTTP sessions, plaintext FTP and SMTP credentials, and keystroke decoding from USB interrupt transfers. For TLS there are two routes — a browser `SSLKEYLOGFILE` or the server's private key, and the second one only applies to RSA key exchange. Worth checking which exchange your server negotiated before counting on a decryption.

DNS tunneling detection is spelled out as heuristics: long subdomains, frequent TXT queries, oversized responses. The skill also points to neighbouring playbooks on memory forensics, steganography and reverse shells, so network artifacts can be tied to findings from other sources.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill traffic-analysis-pcap -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/traffic-analysis-pcap/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/traffic-analysis-pcap/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill traffic-analysis-pcap -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/traffic-analysis-pcap/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill traffic-analysis-pcap -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/traffic-analysis-pcap/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install yaklang/hack-skills traffic-analysis-pcap
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/traffic-analysis-pcap/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill traffic-analysis-pcap -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/yaklang/hack-skills --path skills/traffic-analysis-pcap
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/traffic-analysis-pcap/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yaklang/hack-skills --skill traffic-analysis-pcap -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/yaklang/hack-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/traffic-analysis-pcap/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- repair a corrupted PCAP and merge several dumps into one
- pull files and credentials out of HTTP and FTP sessions
- spot DNS tunneling through long subdomains and TXT queries
- decrypt TLS traffic with an SSLKEYLOGFILE
- decode keystrokes from a USB HID capture

## Example prompts
- Analyze this pcap and tell me which hosts talked to each other
- Check the capture for DNS tunneling indicators
- Extract every file from the HTTP sessions in capture.pcap

# SKILL: Traffic Analysis & PCAP — Expert Analysis Playbook

> **AI LOAD INSTRUCTION**: Expert traffic analysis and PCAP forensics techniques. Covers PCAP repair, Wireshark essential filters, protocol-specific analysis (HTTP, HTTPS/TLS, DNS, FTP, SMTP, USB HID, WiFi, ICMP), data extraction (file carving, credential harvesting, covert channels), NetworkMiner, and tshark CLI analysis. Base models miss USB keyboard decode patterns, DNS tunneling detection heuristics, and TLS decryption workflows.
