## What it does

The skill runs through opencli and a CDP attach to the TradingView.app process. Data commands read the app's session cookies and call TradingView's HTTP APIs from Node, so no Browser Bridge extension and no `apps.yaml` registration are involved.

Ask it for a spot quote, a full options chain with greeks and per-strike IV, expiries, screener results across stocks, crypto, forex, futures and bonds, gainers and losers, news stories, alerts, watchlists including colored flag lists, symbol search, chart state, or a chart screenshot.

Two things have to be in place first: `TradingView.app` installed and a logged-in session inside it. `opencli tradingview launch` quits the running app and reopens it with `--remote-debugging-port=9222`, so save unsaved chart drawings before you run it. The skill is read-only — it never places trades or edits watchlists, alerts or layouts. For plain quotes and TA readouts without the desktop app, use the sibling `tradingview-mcp` skill instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill tradingview-reader -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tradingview-reader/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tradingview-reader/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill tradingview-reader -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tradingview-reader/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill tradingview-reader -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tradingview-reader/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install himself65/finance-skills tradingview-reader
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tradingview-reader/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill tradingview-reader -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/himself65/finance-skills --path plugins/data-providers/skills/tradingview-reader
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tradingview-reader/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add himself65/finance-skills --skill tradingview-reader -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/himself65/finance-skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/data-providers/skills/tradingview-reader/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull an options chain with greeks and per-strike IV
- check which alerts have fired
- screen for oversold stocks
- capture a screenshot of the current chart
- read news for a specific ticker

## Example prompts
- show me the NVDA options chain with greeks
- which alerts fired today?
- screenshot the chart in the open tab

  Read the user's local TradingView desktop app through opencli: quotes, options
  chains with greeks and per-strike IV, options expiries, screener results across
  stocks, crypto, forex, futures, and bonds, gainers and losers, news headlines and
  full stories, alerts (active, fired, offline fires), watchlists including colored
  flag lists, symbol search, chart state, and chart screenshots. Use this skill
  whenever the user asks for any of these from TradingView ("TV") — for example an
  options chain, puts, or IV skew for a ticker, an oversold-stock screen, their red
  flag list, which alerts fired, or a screenshot of their chart. For plain quotes, TA
  readouts, scans, or futures without the desktop app, prefer tradingview-mcp.
  Read-only: it never places trades or edits watchlists, alerts, or layouts.

# TradingView Reader (Read-Only)

If your host has not already executed the shell probes below (for example, in Codex), run the commands inside the `!` wrappers with its shell tool before choosing a setup path. Use the actual output; if shell access is unavailable, report that limitation.

Reads TradingView's desktop macOS app for quotes, options chains, and chart state via [opencli](https://github.com/jackwener/opencli) and a CDP attach to the running TradingView.app process. Powered by the `tradingview` plugin in this repo's [`opencli-plugins/tradingview`](https://github.com/himself65/finance-skills/tree/main/opencli-plugins/tradingview) tree (a separate plugin from opencli's built-in adapters, installed via opencli's monorepo subpath syntax).

**This skill is read-only.** Designed for analysis: pulling options chains, checking IV/greeks, capturing chart state. It does NOT place trades, post ideas, modify watchlists, or change chart layouts.

> **Headless alternative**: for plain quotes, TA readouts, screeners, futures, or a greeks-free options chain, prefer the sibling `tradingview-mcp` skill (bundled MCP server, no desktop app, no CDP relaunch). Use *this* skill when you need greeks / per-strike IV skew, expiries with contract counts, or account-bound data (watchlists, alerts, charts, TV news).

**Important**: Unlike browser-based opencli readers (twitter, linkedin), this one talks directly to a running TradingView desktop app over Chrome DevTools Protocol. The user must (a) have `TradingView.app` installed, and (b) be logged in inside that app. The plugin handles relaunching with the debug port.

**How it works**: data commands read the app's session cookies over CDP and call TradingView's HTTP APIs from Node directly, so no Browser Bridge extension or `apps.yaml` registration is needed.
