# toolify

An integration wizard: asks about the tool, then writes the client wrapper, env vars and webhook handler. Handy for adding Stripe, Supabase or an MCP server to a project.

## What it does

The skill runs as a conversation. It asks for the tool name first, uses it to pick a category: payments, auth, email, CMS or database, LLM, analytics, storage, MCP server. Then come the questions that matter: which project and stack, how auth works, whether an official SDK exists, if webhooks are needed. You see the answers as a summary before any file is written.

Two stacks are covered: Next.js with the App Router and TypeScript, or Rails. On Next.js you get a client in `src/lib/<tool>.ts`, a webhook route under `src/app/api/webhooks/<tool>/route.ts` and an `.env.local.example` template. On Rails it writes an initializer, a service wrapper and a webhook controller. Each new file opens with a comment naming the date and SDK version.

An MCP server takes less: an entry in `.mcp.json` plus the env vars it needs. Webhook signatures get verified in every scaffold, because that is the usual hole in hand-rolled integrations. Business logic on top of the client is left to you; the skill only lays the plumbing. Check `package.json` or `Gemfile` before starting: on a different stack the wizard has nothing to scaffold.

## Requirements
- Works with: Supabase, Notion, Stripe

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill toolify -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/toolify/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/toolify/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill toolify -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/toolify/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill toolify -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/toolify/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install coreyhaines31/makerskills toolify
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/toolify/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill toolify -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills --path skills/toolify
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/toolify/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill toolify -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills/tree/HEAD/skills/toolify/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- set up Stripe with webhook signature checks
- create a Supabase or Neon client and its env vars
- register an MCP server in `.mcp.json`
- build a webhook receiver for an email provider
- start a typed client wrapper in a fresh Next.js app

## Example prompts
- Wire Resend into this Next.js project
- Add the Sanity MCP server and set the env vars
- Integrate Stripe with a webhook handler and an example route

name: toolify
description: When you want to integrate an external tool, API, MCP server, or service into a project — the wizard walks you through auth, config, env vars, client wrapper code, example usage, and an optional smoke test. Scoped to Next.js and Rails projects. Interactive Q&A — starts with the tool name, asks structured questions until the integration is specified, then scaffolds files. Examples — Stripe, Kit, Sanity, Notion, Neon, Supabase, Resend, Postmark, Twilio, Anthropic, OpenAI, Vercel Blob, custom internal APIs. For MCP servers, also handles the .mcp.json wiring. Triggers on "/toolify," "integrate X," "add X to this project," "wire up X," "set up the X integration," "hook up X," "connect X," "add MCP for X." Part of the -ify trifecta (skillify / toolify / loopify). NOT for adding new SKILL.md files — that's skillify. NOT for cron/agent loops — that's loopify.

# /toolify — Wire up an integration or MCP server

Interactive wizard for adding an external tool / API / MCP into a project. Ends with working code + env vars set + a verification path.

## Scope

- **Primary stacks**: Next.js (App Router + TypeScript) and Rails. Reason: those are the two stacks the user actually ships in; supporting every stack bloats the wizard.
- **What toolify handles**: auth pattern (API key, OAuth, JWT, session cookie), env var setup, official SDK vs raw fetch, client wrapper location, example usage, webhook handling (if applicable), MCP `.mcp.json` wiring (if MCP server).
- **What toolify does NOT handle**: writing business logic on top of the integration (that's for the human). It scaffolds the *plumbing*, not the *feature*.

## Step 0 — Get the tool name

Ask if not provided: *"Which tool are we integrating?"*

Detect category from name:

| Category | Examples | Extra steps |
|---|---|---|
| **Payments** | Stripe, LemonSqueezy, Paddle | Webhook signature verification, customer model, event handlers |
| **Auth** | NextAuth/Auth.js, Clerk, Supabase Auth, Devise | Session management, protected routes, callbacks |
| **Email** | Resend, Postmark, SendGrid, Kit | From address, template setup, unsubscribe handling |
| **CMS/DB** | Sanity, Prisma, Drizzle, Neon, Supabase | Schema location, migration path, client singleton pattern |
| **AI/LLM** | Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Vercel AI SDK | Model choice, streaming vs non-streaming, rate limits |
| **Analytics** | Fathom, PostHog, Plausible | Script placement, event tracking API |
| **Scheduling/Comms** | SavvyCal, Cal.com, Twilio, Riverside | Webhook events, embed patterns |
| **Scraping** | ScrapeCreators, Apify, Playwright | Rate limits, response caching, retry policy |
```
