## What it does

The skill runs eight readiness checks against a team and returns one of three verdicts: Go, Conditional Go or Wait. Each verdict comes with a diagnosis of what is in place, what is missing and what is uncertain, plus a recommended attendee list and pre-sprint activities.

Inputs are an initiative description, a team composition draft, the Decider's name and availability, and a self-assessed level of customer or market knowledge on a 1–10 scale. Below 5 means deep discovery comes first, so the verdict is Wait. A score of 5–7 gives Conditional Go with research prep. From 8 it is Go. The skill also checks that the Decider can attend both days; partial availability is already a risk.

The rules are strict. Three or more failed criteria, or a hard fail on any of the first four, produce Wait. A team with no available Decider is not ready, and appointing a stand-in without real authority does not fix that. If the decision is small, a full Foundation Sprint is overkill and a lighter prioritisation tool fits better.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-readiness -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-readiness/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-readiness -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-readiness -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install product-on-purpose/pm-skills tool-foundation-sprint-readiness
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-readiness -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/product-on-purpose/pm-skills --path skills/tool-foundation-sprint-readiness
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-readiness -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- decide whether to run a Foundation Sprint right now
- get a Go / Conditional Go / Wait verdict before spending two days
- list the gaps to close before the sprint starts
- work out who belongs in the room and in what role
- confirm the Decider can attend both days

## Example prompts
- Check our team's readiness for a Foundation Sprint using this initiative description
- Should we run a Foundation Sprint now or close gaps first?
- Produce the verdict and attendee list for our Foundation Sprint

# Foundation Sprint Readiness

Assess whether a Foundation Sprint fits the team's current situation. Most sprints that fail were sprints that should not have been run. A 30-45 minute readiness diagnostic catches that failure mode before two days of facilitated work are spent.

Family contract: [`docs/reference/skill-families/foundation-sprint-skills-contract.md`](../../docs/reference/skill-families/foundation-sprint-skills-contract.md). This skill is a member of `foundation-sprint-skills` and conforms to the family frontmatter and Decider Checkpoint requirements.

## When to Use

- A team is considering starting a Foundation Sprint and needs a fast diagnosis before committing two days.
- A founder or PM has a "should we run a Foundation Sprint?" question and wants structured input rather than a vibes check.
- An existing sprint commitment is on the calendar and the team wants to validate that prerequisites are in place.
- Re-running a Foundation Sprint after invalidated assumptions: use to confirm new context is ready.

## When NOT to Use
