## What it does

The skill produces the prep artifact that goes out before Day 1 of a Foundation Sprint. One bundled document with six sections: initiative statement and stakes, the decision the sprint must unlock, the roster with role assignments, a logistics plan, the inputs to bring, and a readiness reaffirmation. The team and the Decider sign it as the contract for the next two days.

Length is held by structure rather than a character count. The initiative statement is one paragraph of four sentences at most, the decision target is a single sentence, roster and logistics are tables, inputs cap at five bullets, and the readiness check is a checklist. When the brief starts growing, the fix is a clearer decision target, not more pages.

It expects the verdict from `tool-foundation-sprint-readiness` to be Go. Run the readiness check first and close any open preconditions; the brief cannot repair an unready team. It is also not a stakeholder document — that audience reads the Founding Hypothesis at the end of the sprint. The source text is truncated, so check the repository for the full step list.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-brief -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-brief/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-brief/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-brief -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-brief/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-brief -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-brief/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install product-on-purpose/pm-skills tool-foundation-sprint-brief
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-brief/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-brief -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/product-on-purpose/pm-skills --path skills/tool-foundation-sprint-brief
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tool-foundation-sprint-brief/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-foundation-sprint-brief -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- lock the sprint scope before Day 1
- name the decision the sprint has to unlock
- assign roles across sprint sections
- put dates, hours and format into one table
- list the inputs the team should bring

## Example prompts
- build the pre-sprint brief for our Foundation Sprint
- draft a one-page brief: decision target, roles, logistics, inputs
- recheck that the readiness verdict still holds and update the brief

# Foundation Sprint Brief

Produce the one-page brief that aligns the team on scope, decision target, participants, logistics, and success criteria before Day 1 begins. A well-built brief prevents Day 1 from opening with re-litigation of why-are-we-here; a missing or vague brief almost guarantees it.

Family contract: [`docs/reference/skill-families/foundation-sprint-skills-contract.md`](../../docs/reference/skill-families/foundation-sprint-skills-contract.md). This skill is a member of `foundation-sprint-skills`.

## When to Use

- The readiness verdict from `tool-foundation-sprint-readiness` is Go (or Conditional Go with preconditions cleared).
- The sprint has dates blocked on calendars and you need the artifact that names what the sprint is for.
- The team has prep activities scheduled and you need a written reference for what to bring.
- A skeptical exec wants to know "what is the team doing for two days?" and you need an answer that fits on one page.

## When NOT to Use

- The sprint has already started. The brief is a prep artifact, not an in-sprint deliverable. If Day 1 is happening, run `tool-foundation-sprint-basics` instead.
