## What it does

The skill runs eight canonical checks and returns one of three verdicts: Go, Conditional Go or Wait. The checks cover whether the challenge is sprint-worthy, whether a Decider is available for the load-bearing sessions, whether the team sits in the 4-7 person band, whether Friday customer access exists, and whether a one-day prototype is realistic. The diagnostic takes 30-45 minutes, against five team-days and paid honoraria for five strangers.

You get one bundled artifact with six sections: the verdict, a diagnosis, recommended preconditions, an attendee list with role expectations, a customer recruiting plan, and pre-sprint activities. On Wait or Conditional Go the skill spells out the prerequisite work. On Go it names who should be in the room and when recruiting has to start, typically 7-10 days before Friday.

It is the wrong tool once the team has already committed and only needs the brief — that is `tool-design-sprint-brief`. No Friday customer access and no realistic plan to recruit? The sprint degrades into a four-day workshop with no learning event. A missing Decider stops it too: without authority to decide on Wednesday and before Thursday's test, the sprint produces options nobody signs off on.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-design-sprint-readiness -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tool-design-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tool-design-sprint-readiness/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-design-sprint-readiness -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tool-design-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-design-sprint-readiness -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tool-design-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install product-on-purpose/pm-skills tool-design-sprint-readiness
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tool-design-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-design-sprint-readiness -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/product-on-purpose/pm-skills --path skills/tool-design-sprint-readiness
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tool-design-sprint-readiness/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add product-on-purpose/pm-skills --skill tool-design-sprint-readiness -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- decide whether to run a Design Sprint this month or hold off
- catch a missing Decider before five team-days are booked
- build a recruiting plan for five Friday test customers
- check that the challenge is specific enough to prototype in four days
- draft the attendee list and roles inside the 4-7 person band

## Example prompts
- assess our team's readiness for a Design Sprint on this challenge
- run the readiness diagnostic — should we start the sprint now?
- check the preconditions: Decider, customer access, team composition

# Design Sprint Readiness

Assess whether a Design Sprint fits the team's current situation. Design Sprint failure modes are expensive: five consecutive days of a 4-7 person team, plus customer recruiting cost (typically 5 strangers paid honoraria), plus the prototype build. A 30-45 minute readiness diagnostic catches the failure modes before that commitment is made.

Family contract: [`docs/reference/skill-families/design-sprint-skills-contract.md`](../../docs/reference/skill-families/design-sprint-skills-contract.md). This skill is a member of `design-sprint-skills` and conforms to the family frontmatter and Decider Checkpoint requirements.

## When to Use

- A team is considering starting a Design Sprint and needs a fast diagnosis before committing five days plus customer recruiting effort.
