## What it does

You call `/timebox` with a task and a limit, for example `/timebox 10 minutes fix and test the parser` or `/timebox by 16:00 EDT verify the release artifact`. The skill derives one absolute deadline from a fresh local clock reading instead of guessing, and keeps a separate reserve for validation. Work that misses its check before the deadline does not count as done.

Admission comes first. The task, acceptance criteria and deadline have to be unambiguous, every credential and dependency must already be on hand, and the bounded plan plus the validation reserve must fit. Miss any of that and you get `TIMEBOX_NOT_STARTED` naming the failed condition, so you either extend the limit or change the scope. The skill also pulls in `always-current-datetime` for the clock anchor, `starting-point` for the outcome and proof, `outcome-bounded-work` for a faster safe route, and `logic-audit` to catch conflicting scope or an impossible deadline. A dependency that will not load stops the run with `contract-unavailable: <skill-name>`.

During execution the work cutoff sits at the deadline minus the reserve, and no action may start if it could cross that line. Subagents, queued jobs and approvals stay incomplete until their evidence lands inside the window. `TIMEBOX_PASS` needs the whole outcome, passing checks and a completion timestamp at or before the deadline. Late success is still `TIMEBOX_FAILED` for that run, and the skill reports what was finished, what was validated and what remains.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add srinitude/skills --skill timebox -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/timebox/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/timebox/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add srinitude/skills --skill timebox -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/timebox/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add srinitude/skills --skill timebox -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/timebox/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install srinitude/skills timebox
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/timebox/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add srinitude/skills --skill timebox -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/srinitude/skills --path skills/timebox
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/timebox/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add srinitude/skills --skill timebox -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- keep an agent inside a stated time limit
- separate finished work from work in progress
- protect time for validating the result
- catch an impossible deadline before starting
- record a completion timestamp

## Example prompts
- /timebox 10 minutes fix and test the parser
- /timebox by 16:00 EDT verify the release artifact
- /timebox 30 minutes update dependencies and run the tests

# Timebox

## Outcome

Complete the user's full requested work and its decisive validation within the stated limit. This is a hard acceptance constraint, not a request to make partial progress for a while. Only work that is complete, validated, and timestamped before the deadline may pass.

## When to use

Use when the user invokes `/timebox` with both a task and a duration or exact deadline, for example `/timebox 10 minutes fix and test the parser` or `/timebox by 16:00 EDT verify the release artifact`.

If the task or limit is missing, ask one concise question before starting. Resolve ambiguous dates or times through `always-current-datetime`. The limit must be positive and precise enough to compute one absolute deadline.

## Required composition

Before admitting the work:

1. Load `always-current-datetime` and acquire its fresh local clock anchor. Its `captured_at` value is the timebox start. Compute the absolute deadline from that anchor with a tool, not mental arithmetic.
2. Load `starting-point`. Define the complete outcome, decisive proof, scope, authority, unknowns, and forbidden outcomes.
3. Load `outcome-bounded-work`. Keep the full outcome and proof fixed while allowing a faster safe route.
4. Load `logic-audit`. Check for conflicting scope, an impossible deadline, missing proof, and dependencies that cannot fit.

Stop with `contract-unavailable: <skill-name>` if a required skill cannot load. Never replace its current instructions with remembered text.

## Admission gate

Admit the timebox only when all of these are true:

- The task, acceptance criteria, and deadline are unambiguous.
- Every required permission, input, credential, dependency, and human decision is already available or has a proven bound that fits.
- The chosen route preserves the full requested scope, safety rules, and decisive validation.
- Each tool call, command, retry, and external wait has an explicit maximum duration.
- A protected validation reserve covers the decisive checks, result inspection, and completion timestamp.
- The bounded execution plan plus the validation reserve fits before the deadline.

If any condition fails, do not begin. Return `TIMEBOX_NOT_STARTED`, name the failed admission condition, and request either a longer limit or an explicit scope change. Never promise guaranteed completion from an unbounded estimate.
