## What it does

The skill walks through a glTF asset pipeline built on `@gltf-transform/cli`. Start with `inspect` to see where the bytes live: generator, `extensionsUsed`, `extensionsRequired`, plus tables for scenes, meshes, materials, textures and animations. Then `optimize` chains the usual passes — dedup, instance, palette, flatten, join, weld, simplify, resample, prune — and compresses geometry and textures last.

Geometry has three codecs. Draco handles triangle meshes only; animation and morph targets stay untouched, and the runtime needs `DRACOLoader`. Meshopt covers points, lines, morph targets and animation tracks, and decodes quickly. Quantize stores float attributes as 8- or 16-bit integers under `KHR_mesh_quantization` with no decoder to wire up. Make `draco`, `meshopt` or `optimize` the last command in a chain: any other command that rewrites the model decodes the geometry on read and writes it back uncompressed, and says so in a warning.

Textures are a separate problem. KTX2 stays compressed in GPU memory and uploads fast, but `KTX2Loader` falls back to uncompressed RGBA when the GPU supports none of its transcode targets. WebP and AVIF shrink the download instead. `validate` runs the official glTF validator and exits nonzero on errors, so it works as a CI gate. The skill targets three.js r186, examples use `WebGLRenderer`, and the WebGPU and TSL section uses `WebGPURenderer`.

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add CloudAI-X/threejs-skills --skill threejs-asset-pipeline -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/threejs-asset-pipeline/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/threejs-asset-pipeline/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add CloudAI-X/threejs-skills --skill threejs-asset-pipeline -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/threejs-asset-pipeline/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add CloudAI-X/threejs-skills --skill threejs-asset-pipeline -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/threejs-asset-pipeline/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

## When to use it
- find out where the bytes are in a glb before compressing
- cut glTF model weight for the web
- choose between Draco, meshopt and quantize for a given model
- compress textures to KTX2, WebP or AVIF
- gate a model through the validator in CI

## Example prompts
- Compress model.glb with optimize using draco and webp, then show inspect before and after
- Validate model.glb and explain the errors
- Build the gltf-transform command chain for this model and tell me which loader to wire up

# Three.js Asset Pipeline

Targets three.js r186. Examples use WebGLRenderer; the WebGPU and TSL section uses WebGPURenderer.

## Quick Start

Compress on the command line, then load the result. Run `inspect` before and after to see what the pass saved:

```bash
npx @gltf-transform/cli inspect model.glb
npx @gltf-transform/cli optimize model.glb model.opt.glb --compress draco --texture-compress webp --texture-size 2048
npx @gltf-transform/cli inspect model.opt.glb
```

Draco output needs a DRACOLoader attached; WebP textures decode in the browser:

```javascript
import * as THREE from "three";
import { GLTFLoader } from "three/addons/loaders/GLTFLoader.js";
import { DRACOLoader } from "three/addons/loaders/DRACOLoader.js";
const renderer = new THREE.WebGLRenderer({ antialias: true });
renderer.setPixelRatio(window.devicePixelRatio);
renderer.setSize(window.innerWidth, window.innerHeight);
document.body.appendChild(renderer.domElement);
const scene = new THREE.Scene();
const sun = new THREE.DirectionalLight(0xffffff, 2); // glTF PBR materials render black without lights or an environment
sun.position.set(3, 5, 2);
scene.add(sun, new THREE.HemisphereLight(0xffffff, 0x444444, 1.5));
const camera = new THREE.PerspectiveCamera(50, window.innerWidth / window.innerHeight, 0.1, 100);
camera.position.set(2, 1.5, 3);
camera.lookAt(0, 0, 0);
const gltf = await new GLTFLoader()
  .setDRACOLoader(new DRACOLoader()) // the Draco WASM decoder loads from the three package
  .loadAsync("model.opt.glb");
scene.add(gltf.scene);
function animate() {
  renderer.render(scene, camera);
}
renderer.setAnimationLoop(animate);
```
