## What it does

The skill maps an application’s business workflows and checks whether their expected constraints hold. It focuses on price and quantity changes, skipped registration, payment, or MFA steps, repeated coupon use, privilege escalation, and concurrent requests. This gives automated scanners a manual business-logic check when they find few technical issues.

Its workflow covers documenting expected rules, intercepting requests in Burp Suite, changing parameters, and checking the result. The listed prerequisites are written authorization, Burp Suite Professional, a clear understanding of intended workflows, test accounts with different roles or states, Browser DevTools, and business requirements or user stories. Written authorization is a hard boundary here, since the checks alter application requests.

The skill is aimed at authorized assessments of e-commerce flows, voucher and rewards systems, financial applications, voting systems, and other apps with critical rules. The source also shows `curl` requests and concurrent tests; replace example endpoints and tokens with values from the test application.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --path skills/testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add mukul975/Anthropic-Cybersecurity-Skills --skill testing-for-business-logic-vulnerabilities -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- test whether product prices or quantities can be changed
- bypass a required step in checkout or registration
- check whether a coupon or reward can be reused
- probe privilege changes between account roles
- detect race conditions in transfers or reward claims

## Example prompts
- Map the checkout and cart workflows in the test application with Burp Suite, then check whether payment steps can be skipped or totals can be changed.
- Test whether the same coupon or reward can be claimed more than once, including concurrent requests, using authorized test accounts.
- Assess MFA bypass and privilege escalation against the application’s documented business rules.

# Testing for Business Logic Vulnerabilities

## When to Use

- During authorized penetration tests when automated scanners have found few technical vulnerabilities
- When assessing e-commerce platforms for pricing, cart, and payment flow manipulations
- For testing multi-step workflows (registration, checkout, approval processes) for bypass opportunities
- When evaluating rate-limited features like vouchers, coupons, referrals, and rewards systems
- During security assessments of financial applications, voting systems, or any application with critical business rules

## Prerequisites

- **Authorization**: Written penetration testing agreement covering business logic testing
- **Burp Suite Professional**: For intercepting and modifying multi-step request flows
- **Application understanding**: Thorough knowledge of the application's intended business workflows
- **Multiple test accounts**: Accounts at different privilege levels and states
