## What it does

The skill handles manual and hybrid test cases end to end. It covers case anatomy — title, preconditions, steps, expected results, test data — then organizes cases into suites and sections and bulk-generates them from user stories and acceptance criteria. There is also step linting: if an expected result cannot be checked deterministically, the skill flags it.

Under the hood sit `references/linting.md`, `references/tool-apis.md`, `references/import-and-traceability.md` and a quick-route table for common requests. For TestRail, Xray Cloud, Zephyr Scale and Qase the skill emits API and CSV import payloads. That matters because the four tools use different auth schemes, endpoints and step-field names — cross-wiring them gets you a 401 or a 400.

Before writing anything, the skill checks `.agents/qa-project-context.md` in the project root for the tool, project keys and conventions. If the file is missing, it suggests creating one with the `qa-project-context` skill. Xray and Zephyr Scale support targets Cloud here; Server and DC use different base paths and auth. Generating automated test code belongs to `ai-test-generation`, and picking what to test in a sprint belongs to `test-planning`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Jira

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill test-case-management -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/test-case-management/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/test-case-management/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill test-case-management -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/test-case-management/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill test-case-management -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/test-case-management/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install petrkindlmann/qa-skills test-case-management
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/test-case-management/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill test-case-management -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/petrkindlmann/qa-skills --path skills/test-case-management
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/test-case-management/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add petrkindlmann/qa-skills --skill test-case-management -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/petrkindlmann/qa-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/test-case-management/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn acceptance criteria into a checkable test case
- organize cases into TestRail suites and sections
- build a CSV or API payload for Xray, Zephyr Scale or Qase
- find steps whose expected result is ambiguous
- report requirements that have no linked tests

## Example prompts
- write test cases from the acceptance criteria in this story
- lint these steps — are the expected results actually verifiable?
- build a CSV for TestRail import and list requirements with no tests

<objective>
A manual test case that says "test the login" with expected result "verify it works" passes
every review and catches nothing — two testers run it differently and neither can say whether
it failed. This skill produces deterministic cases (discrete steps, one observable expected
result each, concrete test data), organizes them into navigable suites, and emits the
tool-correct API/CSV payloads for TestRail, Xray Cloud, Zephyr Scale, and Qase — whose
look-alike APIs use different auth schemes, endpoints, and step-field names that agents
routinely cross-wire.
