## What it does

This skill guides assistants through structured troubleshooting of Temporal Cloud network and authentication failures. It relies on `tcld` and the `temporal` CLI alongside `openssl`. When teams face x509 errors or `RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED` rate limits, the skill works through a classification tree to isolate root causes.

The process validates DNS resolution, port 7233 reachability, and endpoint formats. For most setups, it routes workers and client SDKs toward `<namespace>.<account>.tmprl.cloud:7233` rather than regional endpoints. Recommendations include an explicit confidence score from 1 to 10 to separate verified fixes from early diagnostic checks.

Worker scaling falls outside its scope. The focus stays entirely on credentials and network connectivity.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add temporalio/skill-temporal-cloud --skill temporal-cloud -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/temporal-cloud/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/temporal-cloud/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add temporalio/skill-temporal-cloud --skill temporal-cloud -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/temporal-cloud/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add temporalio/skill-temporal-cloud --skill temporal-cloud -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/temporal-cloud/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install temporalio/skill-temporal-cloud temporal-cloud
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/temporal-cloud/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add temporalio/skill-temporal-cloud --skill temporal-cloud -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/temporalio/skill-temporal-cloud
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/temporal-cloud/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add temporalio/skill-temporal-cloud --skill temporal-cloud -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/temporalio/skill-temporal-cloud/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Fix TLS handshake errors and expired x509 certificates
- Troubleshoot `tcld` authentication failures and broken token refreshes
- Switch SDK client configurations to proper namespace endpoints
- Diagnose PrivateLink and PSC connectivity blockers

## Example prompts
- My worker fails to connect to Temporal Cloud with an x509 unknown authority error, how do I resolve this?
- tcld account get returns unauthorized after login, help me restore the session
- Check my SDK connection setup, workflow polling fails with context deadline exceeded

description: Fix Temporal Cloud connection, auth, and config problems. Use when users hit login failures, can't connect to Cloud, get x509/TLS errors, have namespace or endpoint mismatches, paste broken SDK connection snippets, are confused about which endpoint to use, see "no pollers" or RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED, struggle with PrivateLink/PSC, or need help setting up a new namespace. Also use for HA namespace failover and DNS issues. Not for worker performance tuning or scaling.

# Temporal Cloud Skill

Help users diagnose and resolve Temporal Cloud connectivity, authentication, and configuration issues using tcld and temporal CLI.

## Core Philosophy

Cloud issues are frustrating because they sit at the intersection of configuration, networking, authentication, and Temporal-specific code. Most problems fall into predictable patterns. This skill provides systematic diagnosis to quickly identify root causes and prescribe fixes.

**Out of scope:** Worker performance tuning, scaling, metrics interpretation, SDK-specific config, deployment patterns. Those topics are covered by separate worker-focused skills.

## Issue Classification

| Category | Key Symptoms | First Check |
|----------|--------------|-------------|
| **tcld Login** | login failed, token refresh failed, wrong account | `tcld account get` |
| **Connection/Auth** | can't connect, access denied, handshake failures | Endpoint format + DNS + port connectivity |
| **Ambiguous Runtime Errors** | `context deadline exceeded`, `workflow is busy` | Identify the operation and layer first |
| **mTLS/Certs** | x509 errors, unknown authority, expired | `openssl x509 -enddate` |
| **Namespace** | namespace not found, SNI mismatch | Namespace name format |
| **HA / Failover** | Failover not working, wrong region, DNS stale | DNS CNAME resolution |
| **Worker** | Tasks not picked up, stale connections | `temporal task-queue describe` |
| **Private Connectivity** | PrivateLink/PSC errors | VPC endpoint status |
| **Rate Limiting** | RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED | APS limits |

## The Process

### Step 1: Identify the Category

Ask the user:
- **What's the exact error message?** (copy-paste if possible)
- **What are you trying to do?** (tcld command, starting workers, running workflows)
```
