## What it does

The skill starts from `references/technical_analysis_framework.md` and walks the chart in order: trend direction and strength, horizontal levels and trendlines, where price sits against the 20, 50 and 200-week averages, volume behaviour, candlestick formations. Then it pulls those threads into one read and names the levels that decide what happens next.

Each chart gets its own report built from `assets/analysis_template.md` and saved to `reports/` as `[SYMBOL]_technical_analysis_[YYYY-MM-DD].md`. Expect 2-4 scenarios whose probabilities sum to 100%, each with target levels and an invalidation level, plus a disclaimer at the bottom. Charts are handled one at a time, not batched.

No API keys are involved, because the skill fetches nothing. You supply the image. That is also the hard limit: without a weekly-timeframe picture there is no analysis to run. News and fundamentals stay out by design, so it is the wrong tool if you trade off catalysts.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill technical-analyst -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/technical-analyst/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/technical-analyst/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill technical-analyst -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/technical-analyst/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill technical-analyst -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/technical-analyst/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install tradermonty/claude-trading-skills technical-analyst
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/technical-analyst/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill technical-analyst -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --path skills/technical-analyst
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/technical-analyst/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add tradermonty/claude-trading-skills --skill technical-analyst -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/tradermonty/claude-trading-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/technical-analyst/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- read a weekly chart from a screenshot
- mark support and resistance levels
- check where price sits against the 200-week average
- split a setup into probability-weighted scenarios
- save each write-up as its own markdown report

## Example prompts
- Here is a weekly chart of SPY — give me the trend and the key levels, and write the report to `reports/`.
- Build bull, base and bear scenarios for BTCUSD with targets and invalidation levels.
- Is price above or below the 200-week average, and what does that change here?

name: technical-analyst
description: This skill should be used when analyzing weekly price charts for stocks, stock indices, cryptocurrencies, or forex pairs. Use this skill when the user provides chart images and requests technical analysis, trend identification, support/resistance levels, scenario planning, or probability assessments based purely on chart data without consideration of news or fundamental factors.

# Technical Analyst

## Overview

This skill enables comprehensive technical analysis of weekly price charts. Analyze chart images to identify trends, support and resistance levels, moving average relationships, volume patterns, and develop probabilistic scenarios for future price movement. All analysis is conducted objectively using only chart data, without influence from news, fundamentals, or market sentiment.

## When to Use

- User provides weekly chart images (stocks, indices, crypto, forex) and requests technical analysis
- Need to identify trend direction, strength, and potential reversal points
- Looking for support/resistance levels and key price zones
- Want probabilistic scenario planning with specific price targets
- Require objective chart-based analysis without fundamental or news considerations

## Prerequisites

- **Chart Images**: User must provide weekly timeframe chart images for analysis
- **No API Keys Required**: This skill analyzes user-provided images; no external data fetches

## Output

This skill generates markdown analysis reports saved to the `reports/` directory:
- **File format**: `[SYMBOL]_technical_analysis_[YYYY-MM-DD].md`
- **Content**: Comprehensive analysis including trend, S/R levels, MA analysis, volume, patterns, and 2-4 probabilistic scenarios with targets and invalidation levels

## Core Principles

1. **Pure Chart Analysis**: Base all conclusions exclusively on technical data visible in the chart
2. **Systematic Approach**: Follow a structured methodology for each chart analysis
3. **Objective Assessment**: Avoid subjective bias; focus on observable patterns and data
4. **Probabilistic Scenarios**: Express future possibilities as probability-weighted scenarios
5. **Sequential Processing**: Analyze each chart individually and document findings immediately

## Analysis Workflow

### Step 1: Receive Chart Images

When the user provides one or more weekly chart images for analysis:

1. Confirm receipt of all chart images
2. Identify the number of charts to analyze
3. Note any specific focus areas requested by the user
4. Proceed to analyze charts sequentially, one at a time
