## What it does

Collection runs as a pipeline: separate Python scripts pull from six sources, retry failed requests and drop duplicates. One editorial selection then feeds every output format, so the Discord post and the email do not drift apart. Two modes exist, daily and weekly, each with its own caps on length and sections.

You need `python3` to run it. Email delivery goes through `mail` (msmtp-based) with `gog` as a fallback. Keys for Twitter/X, Brave or Tavily, Reddit and GitHub are optional, but without them some sources stay empty. Cross-run state (RSS and GitHub caches, source health history) lives in `$TECH_NEWS_DIGEST_STATE_DIR`.

Before delivery the digest is checked with `python3 scripts/validate-digest.py --input FILE --mode daily` or `--mode weekly`, and every error has to be fixed. Security coverage is mandatory: a failed collection is not proof that nothing happened, so checks and decisions get logged. Empty headings stay in place with a coverage note instead of filler, which tells you where the data ran thin.

## Requirements
- Works with: GitHub

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add draco-agent/tech-news-digest --skill tech-news-digest -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tech-news-digest/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tech-news-digest/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add draco-agent/tech-news-digest --skill tech-news-digest -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tech-news-digest/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add draco-agent/tech-news-digest --skill tech-news-digest -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tech-news-digest/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install draco-agent/tech-news-digest tech-news-digest
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tech-news-digest/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add draco-agent/tech-news-digest --skill tech-news-digest -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/draco-agent/tech-news-digest
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tech-news-digest/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add draco-agent/tech-news-digest --skill tech-news-digest -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/draco-agent/tech-news-digest/tree/HEAD/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a morning digest from RSS, GitHub and Reddit into one file
- strip duplicate links across daily and weekly runs
- push one news selection to both Discord and email
- validate a digest before publishing it
- track repo releases and KOL takes without browsing by hand

## Example prompts
- Build the daily tech news digest and save it to the archive
- Produce a weekly digest on LLM and AI Agent topics, no more than five key releases
- Validate the finished digest with validate-digest.py in daily mode
