# teaching-pipeline

This skill guides course design, lesson preparation, assessment, and semester review. Use it to start a course workflow or pick up an existing one at its current stage.

## What it does

teaching-pipeline coordinates six related skills through a Course Passport that tracks the course workflow and its artifacts. It guides design, alignment checks, lesson building, assessment, semester delivery, and reflection. The professor confirms checkpoints along the way.

The skill can resume from existing materials, report course status, or create an HTML dashboard with `python3 scripts/build_dashboard.py <passport>`. The dashboard is generated beside the passport and can be rebuilt on request. Before lessons are prepared, the professor chooses how much to build in each batch; the workflow does not default to preparing the entire term at once, since early materials can go stale. In Claude Code, install it with `npx skills add`, then find the skill file at the path shown below.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill teaching-pipeline -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/teaching-pipeline/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/teaching-pipeline/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill teaching-pipeline -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/teaching-pipeline/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill teaching-pipeline -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/teaching-pipeline/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install YujxZJCN/teaching-skills teaching-pipeline
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/teaching-pipeline/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill teaching-pipeline -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --path teaching-pipeline
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/teaching-pipeline/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add YujxZJCN/teaching-skills --skill teaching-pipeline -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/YujxZJCN/teaching-skills/tree/HEAD/teaching-pipeline/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- plan a course from design through semester delivery
- check alignment between course design and assessment
- resume a course workflow from existing materials
- see the current stage and next action
- review a completed term and plan changes for the next one

## Example prompts
- Guide me through preparing a new course and its semester workflow.
- I have last year's syllabus. Continue from the materials I already have.
- Show the course status and tell me the next action.

# Teaching Pipeline — Course Lifecycle Orchestrator

Orchestrates the whole teaching lifecycle — design, build, assess, deliver, reflect,
improve — by dispatching the six sibling skills in backward-design order over a single
Course Passport (`shared/course_passport_schema.md`). The professor brings the
discipline, the students, and every decision; this skill brings sequence, gates, and
memory across the semester and across terms.

> **Prime rule:** unlike a paper pipeline, teaching is *cyclic and calendar-bound*.
> Stage 4 is a loop, not a step, and Stage 6 feeds Stage 1 of the next term. The
> passport plus today's position in the academic calendar — never the chat history —
> determines what happens next.

## Quick Start

```
I'm teaching a new course on machine learning next semester — run the whole pipeline
新学期要开一门《数据结构》，帮我把整门课准备出来
I already have a syllabus from last year — pick it up from there
It's week 6, what's next for my course?
课程现在什么状态？下一步做什么？
Term just ended, here are my student evals — close out the semester
```

## Modes

| Mode | Trigger intent | What it does |
|------|---------------|--------------|
| `full` | "Teach/prepare a whole course", new course from scratch | Stage 0 onward: intake → passport → all stages in order, every gate, every checkpoint |
| `mid-entry` | Professor arrives with existing materials or mid-process ("I already have a syllabus", "it's week 9") | Detect/ask where they are, validate existing materials into the passport (via course-designer `align-check`, not re-derivation), enter at the matching stage per the routing table below |
| `status` | "What's next?", "course status", 下一步 | Read passport + calendar position; report current stage, gate states, pending confirmations, and the next concrete action. Read-only |
