## What it does

The skill hands your agent a reference for Tailwind CSS v4.0, released January 22, 2025. It covers installation through the Vite plugin, PostCSS or the CLI, configuration written in CSS with `@theme`, and the `@import "tailwindcss"` entry point. Inside you also get a v3-to-v4 migration checklist, a catalog of new utilities such as `text-shadow`, `mask-*` and container queries, plus `@utility` and `@variant` examples.

It is instructions and examples rather than runnable code: the agent reads them and tells you what belongs in `app.css` and your bundler config. The v3 comparison is spelled out too — a Rust engine instead of Node.js, OKLCH colors, built-in Autoprefixer and CSS nesting, automatic content detection instead of a path list. That is why a v3 `tailwind.config.js` has no place in v4.

One thing to weigh: everything here targets v4. On a v3 project with no migration planned, advice about `@theme` and `var(--color-*)` in place of `theme()` will fight your existing code, so check the version first.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4 -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4 -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4 -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4 -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --path plugins/tailwindcss-master/skills/tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4 -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace/tree/HEAD/plugins/tailwindcss-master/skills/tailwindcss-fundamentals-v4/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- install Tailwind v4 in a Vite project
- move theme values out of `tailwind.config.js` into `@theme`
- work through a v3-to-v4 migration checklist
- define a custom utility with `@utility`
- set up a custom variant like `hocus` or `data-loading`

## Example prompts
- Help me install Tailwind v4 in this Vite project and wire up the plugin in `vite.config.js`
- Move my colors and fonts from `tailwind.config.js` into an `@theme` block
- Write a Tailwind v3 to v4 migration checklist for this project
