## What it does

The skill kicks in when you are building a design system on Tailwind v4. It walks the agent through CSS-first configuration with the `@theme` directive: semantic tokens instead of scattered hardcoded values, color scales from 50 to 950, status colors, a type scale, spacing on a 4px base, shadows, radii, easing curves, breakpoints and z-index. What you get inside: `@theme` configuration templates, semantic-token naming conventions, a fluid-type calculator built on `clamp()`, and a token sync workflow from Figma.

Dark mode gets its own section. Light tokens are declared in `@theme`, dark ones override them through `@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)` or a selector. There are also multi-brand theming patterns, where the same token names carry different values per brand.

The skill assumes Tailwind v4 and the CSS-first approach. On a v3 project with `tailwind.config.js` the `@theme` templates will not work, so bump the major version first. Syncing tokens out of Figma needs Style Dictionary or Tokens Studio in the loop.

## Requirements
- Works with: Figma

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --path plugins/tailwindcss-master/skills/tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JosiahSiegel/claude-plugin-marketplace --skill tailwindcss-advanced-design-systems -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- stand up a design system on Tailwind v4 from scratch
- replace hardcoded colors with semantic tokens
- build a brand color scale from 50 to 950
- set up fluid typography with `clamp()`
- switch light and dark themes on the same tokens

## Example prompts
- Build a Tailwind v4 design system: semantic color, typography and spacing tokens in `@theme`
- Add dark mode with `@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark)` on top of the current tokens
- Set up multi-brand theming: same token names, different values per brand
