## What it does

The skill packs 49 rules across 8 priority-ranked categories. Inside: breakpoint strategy, layout transformation, responsive spacing, fluid typography, mobile navigation, touch interaction, responsive media and data table adaptation. Each rule lives in its own file under `references/`, prefixed by category: `bp-`, `layout-`, `rspac-`, `fluid-`, `nav-`, `touch-`, `rmedia-`, `data-`.

The rules come from Refactoring UI by Adam Wathan and Steve Schoger. Your agent reaches for them when you ask to make an interface responsive, refactor a layout for several screen sizes, or review existing Tailwind code for breakpoint and typography problems.

This is built for Tailwind CSS specifically. On plain CSS or another utility library the breakpoint and spacing rules have no ready-made classes to map to, so you would translate them by hand.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pproenca/dot-skills --skill tailwind-responsive-ui -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/tailwind-responsive-ui/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/tailwind-responsive-ui/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pproenca/dot-skills --skill tailwind-responsive-ui -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/tailwind-responsive-ui/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pproenca/dot-skills --skill tailwind-responsive-ui -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/tailwind-responsive-ui/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install pproenca/dot-skills tailwind-responsive-ui
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/tailwind-responsive-ui/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pproenca/dot-skills --skill tailwind-responsive-ui -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/pproenca/dot-skills --path skills/.experimental/tailwind-responsive-ui
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/tailwind-responsive-ui/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add pproenca/dot-skills --skill tailwind-responsive-ui -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- make a desktop-only interface usable on phones
- refactor a layout for several screen sizes
- spot breakpoint problems in existing Tailwind code
- build mobile navigation instead of a horizontal menu
- size touch targets and form inputs for fingers

## Example prompts
- make this page responsive for mobile using tailwind-responsive-ui
- review the layout for breakpoint and spacing issues
- turn the sidebar into an off-canvas drawer on mobile

# Community Responsive UI Tailwind CSS Best Practices

Comprehensive responsive transformation guide for Tailwind CSS applications, based on Refactoring UI by Adam Wathan & Steve Schoger and modern responsive design patterns. Contains 49 rules across 8 categories, prioritized by impact to guide automated refactoring and code generation.

## When to Apply

Reference these guidelines when:
- Making an existing UI responsive across screen sizes
- Building new responsive layouts with Tailwind CSS
- Refactoring desktop-only interfaces for mobile support
- Reviewing responsive code for breakpoint, spacing, and typography issues
- Adapting navigation, forms, and data tables for touch devices
