## What it does

The skill sets boundaries for an agent writing SwiftUI code. Architecture is MVVM or Clean Architecture, with a Coordinator layer once navigation spans several screens. State gets split by purpose: `@State` for local values, `@Binding` for child views, `@Observable` instead of `ObservableObject` and `@Published` in new view models on iOS 17+. Views stay small, and a `body` past 50 lines is meant to be split into subviews.

Swift 6 gets its own section. Strict concurrency checking is on and warnings count as errors. View models are annotated `@MainActor`, async work starts from `.task(id:)` rather than `.onAppear` so the task cancels when the view goes away, and shared mutable logic moves into an `actor`. Targets are Swift 6.0+ and iOS 17+ where possible; if a lower deployment target forces older patterns, the agent is told to say so.

Layout, animation, memory and accessibility are covered too. `GeometryReader` is to be used sparingly, list items need stable ids from `Identifiable` rather than `\.self`, and expensive work should be profiled in Instruments instead of guessed at. Closures outliving the current scope default to `[weak self]`. This assumes a project already building under Swift 6 — on older code with relaxed concurrency checks, some of the advice has to wait.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill swiftui-development -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/swiftui-development/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/swiftui-development/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill swiftui-development -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/swiftui-development/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill swiftui-development -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/swiftui-development/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Mindrally/skills swiftui-development
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/swiftui-development/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill swiftui-development -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Mindrally/skills --path swiftui-development
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/swiftui-development/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Mindrally/skills --skill swiftui-development -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Mindrally/skills/tree/HEAD/swiftui-development/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- split a screen into views and a view model under MVVM
- pick between `@State`, `@Binding` and `@Observable`
- move a view model to `@MainActor` without data races
- swap `.onAppear` for `.task(id:)` when loading async data
- break a growing `body` into subviews

## Example prompts
- Build an order list screen in SwiftUI with an MVVM view model
- Rewrite this view model for Swift 6 strict concurrency
- Why does the whole list redraw here? Check it against the skill rules

# SwiftUI Development

This skill covers best practices for building clear, performant, and maintainable SwiftUI applications, including architecture, state management, Swift 6 concurrency, layout, animation, and testing.

## Key Principles

- Write correct, up-to-date, bug-free, fully functional, secure, and performant code
- Favor readability, but not at the expense of correctness or safety
- Fully implement all requested functionality — leave no TODOs, placeholders, or missing pieces
- Target Swift 6.0+ with strict concurrency checking enabled; treat concurrency warnings as errors
- Target iOS 17+ where possible to use modern APIs (`@Observable`, `NavigationStack`, `#Preview`); note the minimum deployment target when it forces older patterns

## Architecture

- Use MVVM (Model-View-ViewModel) or Clean Architecture; introduce a Coordinator layer for complex, multi-screen navigation flows
- Apply SOLID principles to views and view models:
  - **Single Responsibility** — each view or view model has one reason to change
  - **Open/Closed** — extend behavior via composition and protocols rather than modifying existing types
  - **Liskov Substitution** — protocol conformances must be substitutable without surprising callers
  - **Interface Segregation** — keep protocols small and focused rather than one large "do everything" interface
  - **Dependency Inversion** — depend on protocol abstractions, not concrete types, and inject dependencies via `init`
- Implement protocol-oriented programming; prefer structs over classes for data models
- Use extensions for code organization and separation of concerns

## SwiftUI View Structure

- Keep views small and focused on a single responsibility
- Treat 50 lines as a practical ceiling for a `body` property — past that, extract subviews into small, reusable structs or private extension functions
- Use `@ViewBuilder` for custom container views and complex conditional view logic
- Implement proper view composition patterns

## State Management
