## What it does

The skill connects to a project's Realtime endpoint and tries to subscribe with the anon key. Three surfaces get checked: Postgres Changes (table change streams), Broadcast (pub/sub) and Presence (who is online). Each subscription shows whether events arrive and which fields come with them.

The security model it leans on is Supabase's own: Realtime respects RLS policies. Block SELECT and nothing streams. Allow SELECT and the data reaches the subscriber. Broadcast is the awkward one — channels can be subscribed without RLS, so an open `admin` or `notifications` channel is worth a look at who was supposed to read it.

Findings land in `.sb-pentest-context.json` and `.sb-pentest-audit.log` as the run goes, not at the end, so an interrupted audit still keeps what it found. You need the project URL, the anon key and a completed detection pass. Results are graded: P0 for data streaming without authentication, P1 for a service channel anyone can join.

## Requirements
- Works with: Supabase

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-realtime -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/supabase-audit-realtime/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/supabase-audit-realtime/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-realtime -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/supabase-audit-realtime/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-realtime -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/supabase-audit-realtime/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills supabase-audit-realtime
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/supabase-audit-realtime/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-realtime -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --path skills/audit-realtime/supabase-audit-realtime
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/supabase-audit-realtime/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-realtime -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/audit-realtime/supabase-audit-realtime/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find Realtime channels that accept subscriptions with the anon key
- check whether the `users` table streams rows without authentication
- see if Broadcast leaks notifications for every user
- inspect what Presence exposes about online users
- save findings to disk before the run finishes

## Example prompts
- Audit Realtime channels on my Supabase project
- Test if Postgres Changes streams sensitive data
- Check whether the `admin` and `notifications` Broadcast channels are public

# Realtime Channel Audit

> 🔴 **CRITICAL: PROGRESSIVE FILE UPDATES REQUIRED**
>
> You MUST write to context files **AS YOU GO**, not just at the end.
> - Write to `.sb-pentest-context.json` **IMMEDIATELY after each channel tested**
> - Log to `.sb-pentest-audit.log` **BEFORE and AFTER each subscription test**
> - **DO NOT** wait until the skill completes to update files
> - If the skill crashes or is interrupted, all prior findings must already be saved
>
> **This is not optional. Failure to write progressively is a critical error.**

This skill tests Supabase Realtime WebSocket channels for security issues.

## When to Use This Skill

- To check if Realtime channels are properly secured
- To detect unauthorized data streaming
- When Realtime is used for sensitive data
- As part of comprehensive security audit

## Prerequisites

- Supabase URL and anon key available
- Detection completed

## Understanding Supabase Realtime

Supabase Realtime enables:

```
wss://[project].supabase.co/realtime/v1/websocket
```

| Feature | Description |
|---------|-------------|
| Postgres Changes | Stream database changes |
| Broadcast | Pub/sub messaging |
| Presence | User presence tracking |

## Security Model

Realtime respects RLS policies:
- ✅ If RLS blocks SELECT, Realtime won't stream
- ❌ If RLS allows SELECT, Realtime streams data
- ⚠️ Broadcast channels can be subscribed without RLS

## Tests Performed

| Test | Purpose |
|------|---------|
| Channel enumeration | Find open channels |
| Postgres Changes | Test table streaming |
| Broadcast | Test pub/sub access |
| Presence | Test presence channel access |

## Usage

### Basic Realtime Audit

```
Audit Realtime channels on my Supabase project
```

### Test Specific Feature

```
Test if Postgres Changes streams sensitive data
```

## Output Format

```
