# supabase-audit-buckets-read

This skill walks your Supabase Storage buckets and reports what an anon key can actually reach. Useful before shipping, when you want proof that RLS policies hold.

## What it does

For every bucket the skill tries four things: list files, read metadata, download a sample to check the content type, and open a file through its public URL. Nothing is written or deleted — the test is read-only. Public buckets get hit through direct URLs, private ones through the API with the anon key.

Findings come back ranked. Database dumps (`*.sql`, `backup*`), secret files (`.env*`, `*secrets*`) and credentials land at P0; invoices, contracts, ID scans and data exports at P1. For anything readable, the skill samples the content and looks for keys shaped like `sk_live_`, database connection strings and JWT secrets. Results go into `.sb-pentest-context.json` right after each bucket, and `.sb-pentest-audit.log` gets an entry before and after every file access test. If the run dies halfway, the findings are already on disk.

You need the project's anon key before starting. The bucket list is handled automatically — if it was never collected, the skill invokes that step itself. One thing worth taking seriously: a public bucket holding a user export or a database backup is not a minor finding. Close it and rotate every secret that was sitting in there.

## Requirements
- Works with: Supabase

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-buckets-read -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/supabase-audit-buckets-read/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/supabase-audit-buckets-read/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-buckets-read -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/supabase-audit-buckets-read/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-buckets-read -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/supabase-audit-buckets-read/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills supabase-audit-buckets-read
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/supabase-audit-buckets-read/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-buckets-read -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --path skills/audit-storage/supabase-audit-buckets-read
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/supabase-audit-buckets-read/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add yoanbernabeu/supabase-pentest-skills --skill supabase-audit-buckets-read -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- confirm private buckets reject anon-key reads
- spot database dumps and secret files in public storage
- see which documents leak through public URLs
- produce a ranked P0/P1 report of reachable files
- verify Storage RLS policies behave as intended

## Example prompts
- Test read access on storage buckets
- Test file access on the documents bucket
- List accessible files without downloading content

# Bucket File Access Test

> 🔴 **CRITICAL: PROGRESSIVE FILE UPDATES REQUIRED**
>
> You MUST write to context files **AS YOU GO**, not just at the end.
> - Write to `.sb-pentest-context.json` **IMMEDIATELY after each bucket tested**
> - Log to `.sb-pentest-audit.log` **BEFORE and AFTER each file access test**
> - **DO NOT** wait until the skill completes to update files
> - If the skill crashes or is interrupted, all prior findings must already be saved
>
> **This is not optional. Failure to write progressively is a critical error.**

This skill tests actual file access in storage buckets to verify permissions.

## When to Use This Skill

- After listing buckets, to verify actual access
- To test storage RLS policy effectiveness
- To check for sensitive file exposure
- To document what files are accessible

## Prerequisites

- Buckets listed (auto-invokes if needed)
- Anon key available

## How It Works

The skill attempts to:

1. **List files** in each bucket
2. **Read file metadata**
3. **Download sample files** (for content type verification)
4. **Check public URL access**

**Important:** This is READ-ONLY. No files are modified or deleted.

## Test Approach

| Bucket Type | Tests Performed |
|-------------|-----------------|
| Public | Direct URL access, listing, metadata |
| Private | API listing with anon key, authenticated access |

## Usage

### Basic Read Test

```
Test read access on storage buckets
```

### Specific Bucket

```
Test file access on the documents bucket
```

### List Only (No Download)

```
List accessible files without downloading content
```

## Output Format

```
