## What it does

suede-sms helps decide when SMS fits, map a message flow, and write copy with segment counts, cadence, and quiet hours in mind. It covers welcome, cart recovery, post-purchase, and win-back programs, along with sender types, platforms, and measurement.

The skill checks consent handling, TCPA opt-out requirements, and A2P 10DLC registration. US marketing SMS requires express written consent, and carriers block unregistered 10DLC traffic. It does not send, schedule, import, or register anything, and it is not legal certification.

It can use product context from `.agents/product-marketing.md` or `.claude/product-marketing.md` before asking questions. A US program also needs a defined opt-in method, privacy policy, SMS terms, and a suitable number type.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-sms -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-sms/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-sms/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-sms -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-sms/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-sms -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-sms/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-sms
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/suede-sms/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-sms -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --path skills/suede-sms
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/suede-sms/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-sms -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- decide whether SMS fits a campaign
- map welcome and win-back flows
- draft cart recovery message copy
- set cadence and recipient-local quiet hours
- audit opt-in, STOP/HELP, and A2P 10DLC requirements

## Example prompts
- Assess whether SMS or email fits this abandoned-cart recovery flow, then explain the choice.
- Design a welcome sequence with consent language, message cadence, quiet hours, and copy for each segment.
- Audit this SMS program for TCPA opt-outs, HELP handling, and A2P 10DLC registration.

# Suede AI SMS Programs

Design consent-aware message programs for commerce, mobile, and SaaS
use cases where immediacy can earn its interruption cost. It combines sequence
logic, sender identity, cadence, carrier constraints, and measurement without
claiming legal certification or sending messages.

## Before Starting

**Check for product marketing context first:**
If `.agents/product-marketing.md` exists (or `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or the legacy `product-marketing-context.md` filename, in older setups), read it before asking questions. Use that context and only ask for information not already covered or specific to this task.

Gather this context (ask if not provided):

### 1. Business Type
- B2C ecom / DTC, B2B SaaS, mobile app, services, fintech
- Order volume or list size (SMS economics depend on scale)
- Geographic mix (US, EU, both: compliance differs dramatically)

### 2. Current State
- Existing SMS program (platform, list size, opt-in rate, opt-out rate, revenue/send)
- Email program (SMS works best as a layer on top, not a replacement)
- Phone number type: short code, toll-free, long code (10DLC)
- Sequences already running (so a new flow does not double-tap the same contact)

### 3. Compliance Posture
- US: A2P 10DLC registration complete? (Carriers block unregistered 10DLC traffic outright since February 1, 2025)
- Opt-in mechanism in use? (Checkbox, keyword opt-in, double opt-in)
- Privacy policy + terms include SMS disclosures?

### 4. Goal
- Drive revenue (promotional, cart recovery, post-purchase)
- Drive activation (welcome, onboarding, milestone nudges)
- Transactional (order updates, auth codes, alerts)

## When SMS Beats Email

SMS is not "another email." Use it where the channel's properties win:

| Use Case | SMS or Email? | Why |
|----------|---------------|-----|
| Abandoned cart recovery | **SMS first** | Texts are read within minutes; the cart is still top of mind |
| Order/shipping updates | **SMS** | Customers want it now, on their phone |
| Flash sale / limited drop | **SMS** | Urgency channel; immediate read |
| Auth codes / 2FA | **SMS** (or app) | Latency-sensitive, must arrive in seconds |
```
