## What it does

The skill builds specs for customer referral and affiliate loops. It sizes incentives using LTV and margins, schedules prompt triggers across customer lifecycles, and flags FTC endorsement disclosure rules. If available, it inspects `.agents/product-marketing.md` or `.claude/product-marketing.md` first to pull existing CAC and product context without redundant questions.

Every design enforces baseline fraud controls. Rewards trigger on paid conversion or day-N retention rather than signups, while payouts remain on hold until the refund window expires. The skill specifies payout rules and manual review limits, but it does not execute billing transactions or draft email copy.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-referrals -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-referrals/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-referrals/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-referrals -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-referrals/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-referrals -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-referrals/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-referrals
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/suede-referrals/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-referrals -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --path skills/suede-referrals
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/suede-referrals/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-referrals -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- calculate referral reward size from customer LTV and margin
- establish affiliate commission tiers with refund hold windows
- define qualifying downstream events to stop referral fraud
- outline FTC disclosure terms for rewarded reviews and ambassadors

## Example prompts
- Design a double-sided customer referral program for a B2B SaaS product
- Create an affiliate commission structure with manual review thresholds and fraud caps
- Set up referral prompt cadence for users at day 7, 30, and milestone moments

Returns a program spec with economics, rules, tooling options, and a launch checklist. Use when designing refer-a-friend mechanics, ambassador or partner incentives, affiliate programs, payout logic, or viral-loop measurement. NOT FOR: executing payouts or changing billing, co-marketing with a partner brand (use suede-co-marketing), launch-wide packaging (use suede-launch-packaging), lifecycle messaging (use suede-emails), or reporting unverified referral lift."

# Suede Referral & Affiliate Programs

Suede AI Referrals designs measurable customer, affiliate, and partner loops from
incentive economics through attribution and fraud controls. It separates
modeled loop performance from observed results and keeps activation and payouts
behind approval.

## Before Starting

**Check for product marketing context first:**
If `.agents/product-marketing.md` exists (or `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or the legacy `product-marketing-context.md` filename, in older setups), read it before asking questions. Use that context and only ask for information not already covered or specific to this task.

Gather this context (ask if not provided):

### 1. Program Type
- Customer referral program, affiliate program, or both?
- B2B or B2C?
- What's the average customer LTV?
- What's your current CAC from other channels?

### 2. Current State
- Existing referral/affiliate program?
- Current referral rate (% who refer)?
- What incentives have you tried?

### 3. Product Fit
- Is your product shareable?
- Does it have network effects?
- Do customers naturally talk about it?

### 4. Resources
- Tools/platforms you use or consider?
- Budget for referral incentives?

---

## Referral vs. Affiliate

### Customer Referral Programs

**Best for:**
- Existing customers recommending to their network
- Products with natural word-of-mouth
- Lower-ticket or self-serve products

**Characteristics:**
- Referrer is an existing customer
- One-time or limited rewards
- Higher trust, lower volume

### Affiliate Programs

**Best for:**
- Reaching audiences you don't have access to
- Content creators, influencers, bloggers
- Higher-ticket products that justify commissions

**Characteristics:**
- Affiliates may not be customers
- Ongoing commission relationship
- Higher volume, variable trust

---

## Referral Program Design

### The Referral Loop

```
Trigger Moment → Share Action → Convert Referred → Reward → (Loop)
```

### Step 1: Identify Trigger Moments

**High-intent moments:**
- Right after first "aha" moment
