# suede-pricing

Works out what you charge for, how the tiers fit together, and whether your pricing page reads clearly to buyers and to AI assistants.

## What it does

The skill moves from product economics to prices you can actually test. It settles three things in order: what each tier includes, which metric you bill on (seats, usage, credits, outcomes), and the number itself. Price lands between the next best alternative and what the customer thinks it is worth. Cost to serve is a floor to keep in mind, not the basis.

AI features get their own treatment, because serving cost grows with model usage. The skill covers hybrid seat-plus-usage structures, credits, and outcome-based billing, and it advises modelling margin at the 90th-percentile user and publishing included limits on the page. It also calls out reflex answers like a flat $9/$29/$99 ladder or “Contact us” on the top tier. You can still use them — just say why they beat the alternative for your product.

At the start it looks for `.agents/product-marketing.md` (or `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or the older `product-marketing-context.md`) and only asks about what that file does not cover. Raising prices on existing subscribers needs advance notice with cancellation instructions: California's amended automatic renewal law, in force July 1, 2025, sets that window at 7 to 30 days, and contracts or other jurisdictions can demand longer. Billing changes stay behind explicit approval. For in-product upgrade screens use `suede-paywalls`; for bonuses and guarantees use `suede-offers`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-pricing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-pricing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-pricing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-pricing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-pricing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-pricing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-pricing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-pricing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

## When to use it
- pick a value metric instead of defaulting to per-seat billing
- lay out tiers and decide what to gate versus limit by volume
- model margin on heavy users of AI features with variable compute cost
- plan a price increase that grandfathers current customers
- rewrite a pricing page so both buyers and AI assistants read it correctly

## Example prompts
- Review our current price and propose a value metric — team SaaS, self-serve sales
- Build a Pricing Decision Brief: three tiers, limits, and what goes on the pricing page
- Tear down our pricing page for search and AI-assistant readability and score it

# Suede Pricing & Packaging

Suede AI Pricing turns verified product economics, buyer evidence, and commercial
constraints into testable prices, value metrics, tiers, and migration plans.
It produces a decision brief and measurement plan while keeping billing changes
behind explicit approval.

## Before Starting

**Check for product marketing context first:**
If `.agents/product-marketing.md` exists (or `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or the legacy `product-marketing-context.md` filename, in older setups), read it before asking questions. Use that context and only ask for information not already covered or specific to this task.

Gather this context (ask if not provided):

### 1. Business Context
- What type of product? (SaaS, marketplace, e-commerce, service)
- What's your current pricing (if any)?
- What's your target market? (SMB, mid-market, enterprise)
- What's your go-to-market motion? (self-serve, sales-led, hybrid)

### 2. Value & Competition
- What's the primary value you deliver?
- What alternatives do customers consider?
- How do competitors price?

### 3. Current Performance
- What's your current conversion rate?
- What's your ARPU and churn rate?
- Any feedback on pricing from customers/prospects?

### 4. Goals
- Optimizing for growth, revenue, or profitability?
```
