# suede-play-release

Drives an Android release through the Google Play API: upload an AAB to a testing track, promote that versionCode, run a staged rollout, then read what production actually serves.

## What it does

The skill treats the Play API as the source of truth. A fastlane summary saying the request succeeded proves nothing on its own, so every claim about a live release gets a readback. Step zero runs `scripts/play-preflight.py`, which opens an edit and deletes it — a call that changes nothing but shows whether the key works and the account has access.

Credentials are a dedicated publishing service account, kept base64-encoded in the macOS login Keychain. The preflight script needs `pyjwt` and `cryptography`. One action stays manual: the first release-access grant for that service account happens in the Play Console UI, and until it lands the key is inert. A 403 on the edit is the expected state of a fresh account.

Release notes go to `fastlane/metadata/android/<locale>/changelogs/<versionCode>.txt` before the upload. Skip a locale and Play quietly serves the previous version's text against the new build. Promotion reuses the versionCode already validated on the testing track, because Play rejects a second bundle with the same code. Before anything reaches production the skill stops and asks which fraction of users should get it — a public rollout cannot be taken back. App planning, building and policy checks belong to other skills.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-play-release -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-play-release/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-play-release/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-play-release -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-play-release/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-play-release -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-play-release/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-play-release
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/suede-play-release/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-play-release -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --path skills/suede-play-release
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/suede-play-release/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-play-release -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/suede-play-release/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- confirm the publishing key works before a release
- push an AAB to the internal track with fastlane
- promote a validated versionCode to production without re-uploading
- write per-locale changelogs for a given versionCode
- find out which versionCode and user fraction production is serving

## Example prompts
- Run the Play preflight for `com.example.app` with `scripts/play-preflight.py`
- Upload `app-release.aab` to internal and show me what the Play API returns
- Raise the rollout to 50% and read back the production track status

description: "Suede AI Google Play delivery skill: ship an Android release from the agent interface and prove what is live. Preflight the publishing credential with a real Play API call, upload an AAB to a testing track, promote that exact versionCode, stage or complete a rollout, write per-locale release notes, and read back versionCode, status, and userFraction from the Play Developer API. One step stays a Play Console action the user takes: the first release-access grant for the service account. Use when uploading or promoting an Android build, wiring a Play service account and fastlane supply lanes, fixing per-versionCode changelogs, raising or halting a staged rollout, or answering what production is really serving. NOT FOR: planning, building, or policy-checking the app (use android-app-factory); Play listing, keyword, and screenshot work (use suede-aso); CI required checks (use suede-ci-gate)."

# Suede Play Release

```text
Iron Law: the Play API decides what shipped, not a green fastlane summary.
Every claim about a live release is a readback or it is a guess.
```

## Gate policy: advisory, not blocking

Run every check and report results honestly. Verdicts are advice attached to the
work, never a control that changes it. A failed check changes what you report,
never what you do. The one exception is the production halt in Step 7: a public
release is irreversible for the users who get it, so present the options and let
the user pick.

## Step 0: Preflight the credential before anything else

Never assume publishing works. Prove it with a real API call that changes
nothing: open an edit and delete it. The script reads the key from the macOS
login Keychain and needs `pyjwt` and `cryptography`; on Linux CI, load the same
base64 JSON from the CI secret store and run the equivalent token exchange.

```bash
python3 scripts/play-preflight.py <package.name> [--service NAME] [--account NAME]
```

Three outcomes, three different actions:

| Result | Meaning | Do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| token fails | key is wrong or revoked | rotate, see Step 1 |
| HTTP 401/403 on the edit | Play Console has not granted the account | Step 1's grant |
