# suede-parity-contract

Keeps a single value across every surface of a product: the contract is generated from the reference surface and the rest assert against it in tests.

## What it does

The skill targets one failure mode: a rule, threshold or number that quietly drifts apart between a website, an app and the docs. Nothing crashes when a threshold lands wrong in a second language. The two surfaces just start answering the same question differently, and a user notices first.

Everything hangs off a contract. Exactly one surface is the reference, and that choice is written into the `reference` field so it does not get re-argued. The builder imports constants from the modules the application actually runs on and serializes them with stable key order; retyping a value by hand brings back the very copy the skill removes. A private value gets exported instead of duplicated. Staleness is caught by a test that rebuilds the contract in memory and compares it against the committed file, with a write mode `CONTRACT_WRITE=1` for one-command regeneration.

Each follower keeps a byte-identical copy at the same relative path, verified with `shasum -a 256`. Assertions go through public behavior: a threshold is checked at the boundary and one step below it, a ladder through its rung values via the public accessor. Differences that already exist are not erased — they are pinned in `knownDivergences` with a reason, and a guard keeps the list equal to the expected set. When a divergence turns up mid-build, the skill halts and lays out the options; which surface is correct stays a product call.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-parity-contract -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-parity-contract/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-parity-contract/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-parity-contract -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-parity-contract/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-parity-contract -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-parity-contract/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-parity-contract
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/suede-parity-contract/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-parity-contract -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --path skills/suede-parity-contract
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/suede-parity-contract/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-parity-contract -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/suede-parity-contract/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- catch a threshold that differs between the site and the mobile app before a user does
- stop copying values by hand out of a handoff
- pin existing divergences between surfaces so they stay put
- show that a parity test can actually fail
- regenerate the contract with one command instead of editing JSON

## Example prompts
- Build the parity contract from the reference surface and list the constants it picked up
- Check that the vendored contract copy hashes identical to the reference
- Find the divergences between the site and the app and record them in `knownDivergences`

description: "Suede AI cross-surface canon discipline: hold one canonical answer across every surface that states it (web, iOS, Android, docs, a second service) by generating a contract from the reference surface and making the others assert against it, so a divergence fails a test instead of reaching a user or an answer engine. Consistent canon is what makes a product citable: generative search quotes sources that do not contradict themselves, and a number that differs between your site and your app is a contradiction a model can see. Use when the same rule, threshold, ladder, or stated fact lives on two or more surfaces; when values are copied by hand out of a handoff; when two surfaces already disagree; or when auditing where they drifted. NOT FOR: deciding which surface is correct (a product call this skill records rather than makes); reviewing a diff (use suede-code); wiring merge gates (use suede-ci-gate); a generative-search audit of a page (use suede-seo-audit)."

# Suede Parity Contract

```text
Iron Law: generate the contract from the reference surface's live constants.
A contract you transcribe is a second copy, and second copies drift.
A contract you generate cannot disagree with the code it came from.
```

Silent drift is the failure this prevents. Nothing crashes when a threshold is
copied wrong into a second language. The two surfaces simply start answering the
same question differently, and a user finds out before you do.

## Step 1: Name one reference surface

Exactly one surface is the reference. Every other surface is a follower that
asserts against it. Two references is two sources of truth with extra steps.

Pick the surface where the domain is most complete and most exercised, and write
that choice into the contract's `reference` field so nobody re-litigates it.

## Step 2: Build the contract by importing, never retyping

The builder imports the constants from the modules the application actually runs
