## What it does

The skill enforces structured playbooks for four page formats: direct 1v1 comparisons, single-competitor alternative pages, curated lists of four to seven alternatives, and comparisons between two external rivals. It rejects standard marketing filler. You will not find synthetic winner badges, caricature criticisms of rivals, or feature matrices built around arbitrary checkmarks.

Every claim must link to verified proof. The skill explicitly forbids pulling pricing, reviews, and feature limits from model memory. That evidence belongs in `suede-competitor-profiling`. When available, the skill extracts ICP, value propositions, and tier models from `.agents/product-marketing.md`, `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or `product-marketing-context.md`.

Without verified source profiles, writing a solid comparison fails. This skill formats and structures the public argument rather than gathering raw intelligence or driving programmatic mass generation.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-competitors -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-competitors/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-competitors/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-competitors -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-competitors/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-competitors -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-competitors/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-competitors
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

gemini skills install https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --path skills/suede-competitors
```
### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)
**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/suede-competitors/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works
### OpenCode
**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-competitors -a opencode
```
## When to use it
- outline a switch-intent alternative page for a named competitor
- structure a direct comparison page with realistic migration guidance
- produce a curated comparison table covering 4 to 7 alternative products
- eliminate biased marketing cliches and synthetic winner declarations
## Example prompts
- Draft a `/vs/competitor` comparison page using the `suede-competitors` playbook and our marketing context file
- Outline a list of five alternatives for our rival following the `suede-competitors` criteria framework
- Review this competitor comparison draft and remove unsubstantiated claims and winner rows
# Suede Competitor and Alternative Pages
Use this Suede comparison-page playbook to serve competitive search intent while keeping every product claim current, sourced, and fair.
## Initial Assessment
Check for `.agents/product-marketing.md` (or `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or the legacy `product-marketing-context.md`) and read it if present: your value proposition, ICP, pricing model, differentiators, and proof decide which comparisons you can win on the evidence, and they are usually already written down there.
Then work the intake list under Task-Specific Questions below; ask only what the context file did not already answer. Current competitor evidence, pricing, features, ratings, comes from `suede-competitor-profiling`, not from memory.
## Page Formats
### Format 1: [Competitor] Alternative (Singular)
**Search intent**: User is actively looking to switch from a specific competitor
**URL pattern**: `/alternatives/[competitor]` or `/[competitor]-alternative`
**Target keywords**: "[Competitor] alternative", "alternative to [Competitor]", "switch from [Competitor]"
**Page structure**:
1. Why people look for alternatives (validate their pain)
2. Summary: You as the alternative (quick positioning)
3. Detailed comparison (features, service, pricing)
4. Who switches, and what they gain
5. Migration path
6. Social proof from switchers
7. CTA
---
### Format 2: [Competitor] Alternatives (Plural)
**Search intent**: User is researching options, earlier in journey
**URL pattern**: `/alternatives/[competitor]-alternatives`
**Target keywords**: "[Competitor] alternatives", "best [Competitor] alternatives", "tools like [Competitor]"
**Page structure**:
1. Why people look for alternatives (common pain points)
2. What to look for in an alternative (criteria framework)
3. List of alternatives (you first, but include real options)
4. Comparison table (summary)
