## What it does

The skill lays out how to run a community as a discipline: what identity it reinforces, which platform fits, which rituals keep people coming back, and how to read health metrics with denominators instead of raw counts. Three playbooks sit inside — launching from zero, growing what already exists, and building an ambassador program.

Search visibility gets its own section. Discord and Slack aren't indexed, so support and how-to questions belong in a Discourse forum or a public Q&A, and the best chat answers get turned into public pages weekly, credited to whoever wrote them. Thread titles are phrased the way a buyer would type the question.

Before asking anything, the skill looks for `.agents/product-marketing.md` (or `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or the older `product-marketing-context.md`) and reads that context first. Without the file you answer five questions about the product, platforms, stage, goal and ideal member. Public social-channel content, referral payouts and customer interviews fall outside its scope — separate skills in the same set cover those.

## Requirements
- Works with: Slack

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-community-marketing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-community-marketing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-community-marketing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-community-marketing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-community-marketing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-community-marketing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-community-marketing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-community-marketing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/suede-community-marketing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-community-marketing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --path skills/suede-community-marketing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/suede-community-marketing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-community-marketing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/suede-community-marketing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- launch a community from zero and recruit the first members by hand
- find the stage where members drop off
- set up recurring rituals that bring people back weekly
- build an ambassador program with benefits worth accepting
- move answers out of chat into indexable pages

## Example prompts
- Help me launch a community from scratch: lay out founding-member recruitment and the first channels
- Audit our Discord — where do members drop off and what should we fix first?
- Draft an ambassador program: how to pick candidates and what to offer them

# Suede AI Community Marketing

Use this community-growth playbook to create genuine member value and measurable business outcomes without manufacturing engagement.

## Before You Start

**Check for product marketing context first:**
If `.agents/product-marketing.md` exists (or `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or the legacy `product-marketing-context.md` filename, in older setups), read it before asking questions. Use that context and only ask for information not already covered.

Understand the situation (ask if not provided):

1. **What is the product or brand?**: What problem does it solve, who uses it
2. **What community platform(s) are in play?**: Discord, Slack, Circle, Reddit, Facebook Groups, forum, etc.
3. **What stage is the community at?**: Pre-launch, 0–100 members, 100–1k, scaling, or established
4. **What is the primary community goal?**: Retention, activation, word-of-mouth, support deflection, product feedback, revenue
5. **Who is the ideal community member?**: Role, motivation, what they hope to get from joining

Work with whatever context is available. If key details are missing, make reasonable assumptions and flag them.

## Community Strategy Principles

### Build around a shared identity, not just a product

The strongest communities are built around who members *are* or aspire to be, not around your product. Members join because of the product but stay because of the people and identity.

Example: r/homelab: the identity is tinkerers who self-host, and every ritual,
channel, and recognition mechanic in it reinforces that self-image.
