## What it does

The skill directs coding agents to draft cold outreach that reads like a peer note rather than a vendor pitch. It first inspects `.agents/product-marketing.md` or `.claude/product-marketing.md` to borrow product positioning. Drafts stay focused on the recipient's context: "you" outnumbers "we", while marketing jargon gets discarded immediately.

Formatting constraints are strict. Subject lines must use two to four lowercase words without hype or punctuation tricks. The body cannot exceed 75 words and must close with a single low-friction question. Follow-up sequences stay bounded to three to five touches, each carrying a different angle.

Every output must include an explicit `Personalization source` field pointing to an observable trigger. Without a genuine signal such as a job post or tech stack change, the draft fails the quality gate.

## Requirements
- Works with: Gmail

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-cold-email -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-cold-email/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-cold-email/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-cold-email -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-cold-email/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-cold-email -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-cold-email/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-cold-email
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/suede-cold-email/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-cold-email -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --path skills/suede-cold-email
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/suede-cold-email/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-cold-email -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/suede-cold-email/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- draft concise B2B outreach emails capped under 75 words
- build 3-to-5-touch follow-up sequences with rotating angles
- remove sales jargon and deliverability red flags from drafts
- anchor cold openings to verifiable business signals

## Example prompts
- Draft a cold email to a VP of Sales using their recent job posting as the research signal.
- Create a 4-touch follow-up sequence with a distinct angle on every step.
- Review this outreach draft against the 75-word limit and simplify the call to action.

# Suede AI Cold Email Writing

Use this cold-email playbook to write concise, evidence-grounded outreach that sounds human and respects the recipient.

## Before Writing

**Check for product marketing context first:**
If `.agents/product-marketing.md` exists (or `.claude/product-marketing.md`, or the legacy `product-marketing-context.md` filename, in older setups), read it before asking questions. Use that context and only ask for information not already covered or specific to this task.

Understand the situation (ask if not provided):

1. **Who are you writing to?** Role, company, why them specifically
2. **What do you want?** The outcome (meeting, reply, intro, demo)
3. **What's the value?** The specific problem you solve for people like them
4. **What's your proof?** A result, case study, or credibility signal
5. **Any research signals?** Funding, hiring, LinkedIn posts, company news, tech stack changes

Work with whatever the user gives you. If they have a strong signal and a clear value prop, that's enough to write. Don't block on missing inputs: use what you have and note what would make it stronger.

## Writing Principles

### Write like a peer, not a vendor

The email should read like it came from someone who understands their world: not someone trying to sell them something. Use contractions. Read it aloud. If it sounds like marketing copy, rewrite it.

### Every sentence must earn its place

Cold email is ruthlessly short. If a sentence doesn't move the reader toward replying, cut it. The best cold emails feel like they could have been shorter, not longer.

### Personalization must connect to the problem

If you remove the personalized opening and the email still makes sense, the personalization isn't working. The observation should naturally lead into why you're reaching out.

See [personalization.md](references/personalization.md) for the 4-level system and research signals.

### Lead with their world, not yours
