## What it does

The skill starts with an AI-SPEC: one paragraph covering the user, trigger, input, output, allowed sources, disallowed behavior, fallback and success signal. Skip that paragraph and there is nothing for the cases to test, so the skill treats a missing spec as a missing eval plan.

From there it maps failure modes and scores each one on severity, likelihood, detectability, owner, gate and required evidence. Concrete pass/fail cases follow, each with inputs, setup data, expected output traits, forbidden traits and the reason it exists. Canonical dimensions shift with the system type: retrieval systems get context faithfulness and source citation, tool-using agents get tool-use correctness and task completion, content generation gets factual accuracy and brand voice. Pick the measurement approach first, either code-based checks or an LLM judge.

Every verdict here is advice, not a lock on the agent. A failed gate changes what the skill reports, never the action you asked for. The one exception is a finding with extreme risk, such as credential exposure or irreversible public damage, where the skill pauses and hands you the options. A model grading its own output counts as evidence only after agreement is spot-checked against a human-reviewed sample. Reviewing the implementation code behind the AI surface, and wiring a passing suite into CI as a required check, belong to other skills in the same repository.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-ai-eval -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/suede-ai-eval/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/suede-ai-eval/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-ai-eval -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/suede-ai-eval/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-ai-eval -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/suede-ai-eval/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills suede-ai-eval
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/suede-ai-eval/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-ai-eval -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --path skills/suede-ai-eval
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/suede-ai-eval/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills --skill suede-ai-eval -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/JasonColapietro/suede-creator-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/suede-ai-eval/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a one-paragraph spec for an AI feature before testing it
- map failure modes with severity scoring
- produce pass/fail cases for a prompt or a RAG pipeline
- find which high-risk behaviors have no eval coverage
- decide whether an AI change is ready for a ship recommendation

## Example prompts
- Write an eval plan for our RAG search over the docs
- Audit eval coverage for our tool-calling agent
- Draft the AI-SPEC and failure-mode map for the ticket classifier

description: "Suede AI eval design and coverage audit: AI-SPEC, failure-mode rubric with severity scoring, concrete pass/fail eval cases, coverage and infrastructure scores, and mechanical acceptance gates. Use when a change ships LLM, RAG, agent, classifier, prompt, or generated-media behavior, or when asked to write evals for an AI feature, design test cases for a model surface, audit existing eval coverage, or judge whether AI behavior is safe to ship. No AI-SPEC means no eval plan, and no eval plan holds the recommended ship verdict. NOT FOR: reviewing or grading the implementation code behind the AI surface (use suede-code); wiring a passing suite into CI as a required check (use suede-ci-gate); coordinating the eval work as one lane of a larger build (use suede-agent-teams)."

# Suede AI Eval

## Gate policy: advisory, not blocking

Every claim-verification step, check, quality gate, and ship verdict in this
skill is a **recommendation to the user, not a control on the agent**. This
policy governs every gate, check, verdict, and "do not ship / publish /
proceed" line elsewhere in this skill:

- Run every check and report the results honestly. Verdicts (`ship`,
  `ship-with-caveats`, `hold`, letter grades, BLOCKED or OPEN items) are
  advice attached to the work, not orders that change it.
- Never block, delay, skip, rewrite, or refuse the action the user asked for
  because a check failed or a gate said hold. Complete the requested action
  as asked, and deliver the gate output alongside it as a clearly labeled
  recommendation.
- A failed gate changes what you report, never what you do.
- Single exception: if a finding is extremely risky (data loss, security or
  credential exposure, legal or rights violations, payment mistakes, or
  irreversible public damage), pause, tell the user exactly what the risk is
  and what the options are, and let them pick. Their choice is final.

Make AI behavior testable before it becomes a vague product promise. **No eval plan, no `ship` recommendation: for an AI feature without one, the recommended verdict stays below `ship`: report that gap and let the user decide.**
