## What it does

The skill takes your subject candidates or a brief and returns 3–8 variants, each with an angle label and a stable id like `SUBJ-A`. Every variant gets a pre-score card: which spam patterns fired, character length and truncation on desktop and mobile separately, emoji count, and the rendered inbox preview built from from-name, subject and preheader. Weak candidates get cut before they take up a test cell.

Three modes are covered: B2C promo and lifecycle, B2B cold outbound, and newsletter. Character counts are computed locally with no external service. Render limits and spam-pattern lists are heuristics, and the skill labels them Estimated rather than measured.

Scope is subject and preheader only. Body copy and CTA belong to another skill, A/B test design and significance readout to a third, and the profile-weighted EQS with the S1/S2/N1/D1 vetoes stays with `email-quality-auditor`. A pre-score here is a flag, not a verdict. If you have an export of past campaigns with opens, the skill checks which angles and lengths already worked for that list; without it, it asks for candidates, from-name and mode.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill subject-line-lab -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/subject-line-lab/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/subject-line-lab/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill subject-line-lab -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/subject-line-lab/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills --skill subject-line-lab -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/subject-line-lab/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install aaron-he-zhu/aaron-marketing-skills subject-line-lab
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/subject-line-lab/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**

## When to use it
- generate subject line and preheader variants for an offer
- check whether a subject gets cut off on mobile
- catch spam-trigger words before sending
- see how the whole email renders in the inbox
- cut weak subjects before an A/B test

## Example prompts
- Pre-score these 6 subject lines for truncation and spam triggers, from-name [Sender], promo mode: [paste]
- Generate 5 subject-line variants + preheaders for [offer], cold-outbound mode, and rank them by pre-score
- Show the inbox preview for my top 3 on desktop and mobile, and cut anything that truncates the promise
