# subgraph-doctor

A skill that tracks down why a Goldsky Subgraph stopped indexing, stalled or failed to deploy, then points at the fix.

## What it does

The skill walks the agent through a fixed sequence. First `goldsky project list` to confirm you are logged in, then `goldsky subgraph list` to see every subgraph and its status. From there it triages by symptom: a failed deploy, a head that stopped moving, an endpoint returning 404.

Diagnostics come from two places. Error-filtered logs via `goldsky subgraph log <name/version> --since 1h --filter error`, and a `_meta` GraphQL query that reports the latest indexed block plus `hasIndexingErrors`. A block far behind the chain head means still syncing or stalled. A block ahead of the chain means the wrong network went into `subgraph.yaml`.

Common failures have their own entries: an unknown chain slug, mixed `apiVersion` across data sources, an undefined interface in `schema.graphql`, timeseries specs that need an `Int8` id or a `@unique` directive. Each one lists the cause and the edit. The skill sticks to customer-facing tools — `goldsky` CLI, the dashboard, GraphQL queries. It will not reach for `graphman`, `kubectl` or Datadog, and escalates to support when the problem sits on Goldsky's side. You need a working, authenticated `goldsky` CLI before any of this runs. A healthy but slow subgraph is out of scope; that is `/subgraph-builder` territory.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill subgraph-doctor -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/subgraph-doctor/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/subgraph-doctor/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill subgraph-doctor -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/subgraph-doctor/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill subgraph-doctor -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/subgraph-doctor/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install goldsky-io/goldsky-agent subgraph-doctor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/subgraph-doctor/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill subgraph-doctor -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --path skills/subgraph-doctor
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/subgraph-doctor/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add goldsky-io/goldsky-agent --skill subgraph-doctor -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/goldsky-io/goldsky-agent/tree/HEAD/skills/subgraph-doctor/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find out why a subgraph is frozen at one block
- debug a failed deploy and spot a bad network slug
- check `_meta` for indexing errors
- tell a slow sync apart from a broken handler
- work out why the endpoint returns 404 or no data

## Example prompts
- my subgraph stopped syncing, check the logs and tell me what broke
- the deploy fails with no network found — look at the manifest
- the subgraph endpoint returns 404, run a diagnosis

description: "Diagnose and fix broken Goldsky Subgraphs. Use this skill whenever a user has a subgraph that is failing, stalled, stuck syncing, not indexing, auto-paused, returning errors, or won't deploy. Triggers on: 'subgraph stopped syncing', 'subgraph stuck at block', 'subgraph stalled', 'subgraph failed to deploy', 'indexing error', 'SubgraphSyncingFailure', 'unexpected null in handler', 'no network found', 'deployment already exists', 'subgraph not returning data', 'subgraph endpoint 404', 'reached the subgraph limit', 'rate limited'. Also use when the user names a subgraph alongside a problem. Runs CLI commands directly to check status, read logs, identify root cause, and apply fixes. For building, authoring, deploying, endpoint/tag reference, or optimizing a healthy-but-slow subgraph (e.g. too many eth_calls), use /subgraph-builder instead. For migrating from The Graph, use /subgraph-migrate instead."

# Subgraph Doctor

Diagnose and fix existing Goldsky Subgraph problems by running CLI commands, reading logs, identifying root causes, and executing fixes.

## Boundaries

- Diagnose and fix EXISTING subgraph problems.
- Diagnose only subgraphs that are **broken** (failing, stalled, erroring, won't deploy). A healthy but slow subgraph is an *optimization* task — use `/subgraph-builder` (e.g. reducing/declaring eth_calls).
- Do not build or scaffold new subgraphs — use `/subgraph-builder` for authoring/`init`/`deploy`.
- Do not handle The Graph migrations — use `/subgraph-migrate`.
- Do not serve as a command reference — use `/subgraph-builder` or `goldsky subgraph <cmd> --help` for CLI syntax and flag lookups.
- Do not handle Turbo or Mirror pipelines — use `/turbo-doctor` or `/mirror-doctor`.
- **Customer-facing only.** Use only `goldsky` CLI commands, the dashboard, and GraphQL queries. Never suggest `graphman`, `kubectl`, Datadog, or direct database access — those are internal Goldsky tooling. When a problem needs them, escalate to support (see Step 6).

## Mode Detection

Before running anything, check if you have the `Bash` tool:

- **Bash available (CLI mode):** Run commands directly and parse output.
- **Bash NOT available (reference mode):** Give the user one command at a time, explain what to look for, and proceed based on what they paste back.

## Diagnostic Workflow

Follow these steps in order. Each builds on the previous one.

### Step 1: Verify Authentication
