## What it does

This skill directs your coding assistant to build and inspect Stripe Apps using official developer references. It covers manifest configuration in `stripe-app.yaml`, user interface elements via `@stripe/ui-extension-sdk`, and extension points through `@stripe/extensibility-sdk`.

The agent uses bundled guides under `references/` to set up invoice line items, proration rules, discount calculation scripts, and custom actions in Stripe Workflows. It also covers Secret Store API usage for app credentials and webhook routing for background events.

Do not assume an account supports an extension simply because a scaffold exists. The skill forces the agent to inspect account access and read bundled files before modifying code.

## Requirements
- Works with: Stripe

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stripe/ai --skill stripe-apps -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/stripe-apps/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/stripe-apps/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stripe/ai --skill stripe-apps -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/stripe-apps/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stripe/ai --skill stripe-apps -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/stripe-apps/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install stripe/ai stripe-apps
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/stripe-apps/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stripe/ai --skill stripe-apps -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/stripe/ai --path skills/stripe-apps
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/stripe-apps/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add stripe/ai --skill stripe-apps -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/stripe/ai/tree/HEAD/skills/stripe-apps/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- configure `stripe-app.yaml` manifests and permission sets
- build Dashboard drawers and full-page apps using `@stripe/ui-extension-sdk`
- write custom script extensions for prorations and discount calculations
- implement custom actions for Stripe Workflows
- store sensitive app credentials using the Secret Store API

## Example prompts
- Set up a new Stripe App manifest in stripe-app.yaml with customer drawer UI permissions.
- Write a script extension that calculates custom discounts on subscription invoices.
- Implement a custom action for Stripe Workflows using a remote function.

  Build, modify, or review Stripe Apps and extensions using the relevant
  documentation and reference guides. Use for custom Stripe Dashboard UI,
  stripe-app.yaml, @stripe/ui-extension-sdk, @stripe/extensibility-sdk, script

  authenticate to Stripe or react to events. Also use when deciding whether a

## Stripe Apps

Select and read the existing guidance for the user’s task. Product documentation describes what an extension can do; implementation guides describe how to build it. Before recommending an extension or writing code, load the applicable bundled reference files as well as the relevant product documentation. A link or filename in this skill isn’t a substitute for reading its contents.

For a capability question, check native Stripe features and the documented applicability and limitations of the extension. For an implementation request, create or modify working files using the selected guide. For an existing app, inspect its manifest, packages, installed SDK, and local agent instructions before deciding what to change.

## Choose the relevant documentation

Use information already supplied by the user or existing app. Read <references/discovery.md> when you need to clarify the app’s requirements, and <references/extension-types.md> for an overview of app architectures. Ask only for missing information that affects the task.

### Product capabilities

Use these existing product documents to determine which capability fits and whether the account has the required access. Don’t infer support from an extension’s name or the existence of a scaffold.
