## What it does

The skill classifies your request first and picks a track: a new app, integration into an existing one, a reference lookup on the SDK, or plain package setup. From there it moves through credentials, project signals, then the build. Separate files cover AI assistants built on `stream-chat-android-ai-compose`, migration off Sendbird, and matching a screenshot or Figma frame.

You need an Android Studio project in Kotlin with Gradle. Credentials go through the `getstream` CLI by default — it fetches the API key and mints a token. Paste the key and token yourself and the CLI becomes optional. Check that the `getstream` binary is on your PATH, or you will be doing that step by hand.

Migration is its own branch. The skill reads the shape of your current integration and swaps only the SDK layer, leaving architecture and navigation alone. Where a screen has no bundled Stream equivalent, it points you at the public cookbook and offers to build it rather than inventing a replacement. Worth knowing if your app carries a lot of custom screens.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GetStream/agent-skills --skill stream-android -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/stream-android/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/stream-android/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GetStream/agent-skills --skill stream-android -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/stream-android/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GetStream/agent-skills --skill stream-android -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/stream-android/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install GetStream/agent-skills stream-android
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/stream-android/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GetStream/agent-skills --skill stream-android -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/GetStream/agent-skills --path skills/stream-android
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/stream-android/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add GetStream/agent-skills --skill stream-android -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/GetStream/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/stream-android/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- add Stream Chat to an Android app built with Jetpack Compose
- build a chat screen with streamed LLM replies and a thinking indicator
- wire navigation between the channel list and message screens
- move an app off Sendbird without rewriting navigation
- match the chat UI to a screenshot or Figma frame

## Example prompts
- Add Stream Chat to this Android project and wire up auth
- Build a ChatGPT-style assistant with stream-chat-android-ai-compose and streamed replies
- Make the chat look like this screenshot

Use for Jetpack Compose, Android Studio, and Gradle project work - including Stream package setup, auth and token wiring, screen blueprints, AI assistants and LLM chat (ChatGPT-style apps, streaming replies, thinking indicators, stop generating) with stream-chat-android-ai-compose, and any follow-up Stream UI work such as adding screens, navigating between channel list and channel/message screens, channel tap handling, deep links, push routing, theming, custom channel/message UI, video calling flows (joining/starting calls, ringing, custom call controls and participant tiles), and Feeds surfaces (timeline, activity composer, threaded comments, follow graph / profile, notification feed, stories)."

compatibility: Requires an Android Studio / Gradle project (Kotlin). The `getstream` CLI (binary name `getstream`) is the default path for the credentials flow (API key fetch, token mint, and any product-specific setup - see `credentials.md`); only optional when the user pastes the API key and token themselves.

# Stream Android - skill router + execution flow

**Rules:** Read **[`RULES.md`](RULES.md)** once per session - every non-negotiable rule is stated there, nowhere else.

This file is the **single entrypoint**: intent classification, local project detection, and module pointers for Stream work in Android apps.

---

## Step 0: Intent classifier (mandatory first - never skip)

Before any tool call, decide the **track** from the user's input alone - no probes first.

### Signals -> track

| Signal in user input | Track |
|---|---|
| Explicit product/framework token: `Chat Compose`, `Chat XML`, `Video Android`, `Video Compose`, `Feeds Android`, `Feeds Compose`, etc. | **C - Reference lookup** |
| Words "docs" or "documentation" around Stream Android/Compose work | **C - Reference lookup** |
| "How do I {X} in Compose/XML/Android?", "What does {SDK type/Composable/View/Fragment} do?" | **C - Reference lookup** |
| "Build me a new Android app", "create a Compose app", "new Android app" + Stream product | **A - New app** |
| "Add/integrate Stream into this app", "wire Chat/Video/Feeds into my Android project" | **B - Existing app** |
```
