# storytelling-and-narrative

Turns a flat post into an arc: setup, turning point, payoff. Useful when the copy reads like a spec sheet.

## What it does

This skill is the narrative layer that sits on top of the format writers. It digs for the real story behind a brand, founder or customer, builds the arc (setup → turning point → payoff) and pins it down with concrete detail. The audience is cast as the hero, the brand as the guide. From there the arc goes to `reels-script`, `carousel-writer`, `linkedin-post-writer`, `thread-writer` or `caption-writer`, and the opening line goes to `hook-writer`.

The framework is BEATS: begin with the real story, establish the arc, anchor in specifics, tune emotion and meaning, shape to the format. It reads `brand-profile` and `voice-builder` first, so an empty profile leaves it with little to work from. Longer arcs get serialized into `content-calendar`, and WoopSocial handles publishing.

It will not invent a customer story or a testimonial, and it makes no promise about reach. That matters if you were hoping to skip the interviews. This is not `story-writer`, which handles the IG/FB Stories format, and not `campaign-and-launch-planning` — the craft lives here, the format mechanics live with the siblings.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill storytelling-and-narrative -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/storytelling-and-narrative/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/storytelling-and-narrative/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill storytelling-and-narrative -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/storytelling-and-narrative/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill storytelling-and-narrative -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/storytelling-and-narrative/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install social-media-skills/skills storytelling-and-narrative
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/storytelling-and-narrative/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill storytelling-and-narrative -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills --path skills/storytelling-and-narrative
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/storytelling-and-narrative/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill storytelling-and-narrative -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/storytelling-and-narrative/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find the story inside a post that reads like a press release
- structure a founder's anecdote around a turning point
- split one long story into a serialized run of posts
- swap generalities for one concrete sensory detail
- reframe the same story for different platforms without losing the voice

## Example prompts
- Help me tell our founder's story — find the real tension and build the arc
- This launch post feels flat, rewrite it using BEATS
- Break the customer story into a series for the content-calendar

  The narrative-craft layer -- apply story structure (tension, transformation, resolution) to make any social
  content stick and travel. Use when someone wants to tell their brand/founder/customer story, make a
  flat post land, build an emotional or narrative-driven piece, or structure a story across formats.
  Uses the BEATS framework. Reads brand-profile + voice-builder first. The agent finds the real story,
  structures the arc (setup -> turning point -> payoff; audience = hero, brand = guide), anchors
  concrete specifics, and shapes it to the format. Feeds the format writers (reels-script,
  carousel-writer, linkedin-post-writer, thread-writer, caption-writer) and hook-writer; serialized arcs
  map into content-calendar; WoopSocial publishes. NOT the IG/FB Stories format (that's story-writer).
  Never fabricates a customer story or testimonial; never guarantees virality. Distinct from
  story-writer, hook-writer (the opening it pairs with), the format writers, and
  campaign-and-launch-planning.

# storytelling-and-narrative

The **narrative-craft layer** — find the real story, structure the arc, anchor it in specifics, land the
meaning, shape it to the format. A craft layer that **feeds the format writers**; **WoopSocial publishes**;
serialized arcs map into the **content-calendar.**

## The POV: people share feeling + meaning, not information
Story-driven content **outperforms purely informational posts** on reach + saves (the brain is wired for
narrative — stories are remembered ~22× better than facts; clear narrative structure earns ~62% more saves in
short-form). But 2026 storytelling is **not a long speech or a movie trailer** — it's **getting to the point
and making it feel real**: a tight micro-arc, a **relatable protagonist** (the audience is the hero, the brand
is the guide), and **concrete specifics**. The skill is knowing **when** a story earns its arc and **how** to
build it — then handing the format mechanics to the writers.

## Read these first
1. **brand-profile** — identity + real proof points.
2. **voice-builder** — the narrative voice.

## The framework: BEATS
(Depth: `references/the-beats-framework.md`.)
- **B — Begin with the real story:** find the human truth/tension (transformation, conflict, stakes); not
