## What it does

The skill provides a board reference, ready-to-use code recipes, and a project template that can be built and flashed. It covers `platformio.ini`, clock configuration, the 48-pin package map, and STM32Cube HAL peripherals. The material also applies to STM32F411CE and F401CC Black Pill variants, including the DFRobot DFR0864.

Topics include USB CDC, an RTC driven by the LSE crystal, the temperature sensor, ADC readings, and DFU recovery. A scaffolding script creates projects in `--full` or `--minimal` form. USB CDC requires adding the USB Device Library under `lib/`; it is not part of `framework-stm32cubef4`.

The clock settings affect USB: at 100 MHz SYSCLK, USB does not enumerate, while this setup uses 96 MHz with a 48 MHz USB clock. A missing custom `SysTick_Handler()` leaves the board stuck at its first `HAL_Delay()`. The board connects over USB-C and has no USB-to-serial chip.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alexex1993/mcu-skills --skill stm32f411-blackpill -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/stm32f411-blackpill/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/stm32f411-blackpill/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alexex1993/mcu-skills --skill stm32f411-blackpill -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/stm32f411-blackpill/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alexex1993/mcu-skills --skill stm32f411-blackpill -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/stm32f411-blackpill/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install alexex1993/mcu-skills stm32f411-blackpill
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/stm32f411-blackpill/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alexex1993/mcu-skills --skill stm32f411-blackpill -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/alexex1993/mcu-skills --path skills/stm32/stm32f411-blackpill
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/stm32f411-blackpill/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alexex1993/mcu-skills --skill stm32f411-blackpill -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- set up a PlatformIO project for the STM32F411 Black Pill
- configure a 96 MHz system clock alongside 48 MHz USB
- add a USB CDC console to the firmware
- use the LSE crystal for the RTC
- debug a board hang or peripheral issue

## Example prompts
- Set up PlatformIO for the WeAct Black Pill with an STM32F411CEU6 and check the clock configuration.
- Add a USB CDC console to the project template and list the files needed to build it.
- Find out why `HAL_Delay()` hangs after the board starts.

description: Firmware development for the WeAct Studio "Black Pill" (STM32F411CEU6) and its clones such as the DFRobot DFR0864 — the 25 MHz HSE and 32.768 kHz LSE crystals, PC13 LED, K1 button, USB-C wired straight to USB_OTG_FS, ROM DFU flashing, the SPI-flash footprint, and the STM32Cube HAL + PlatformIO setup around them. Use when working on this board or any STM32F411CE/F401CC Black Pill: project setup, platformio.ini, clock and PLL configuration for 96 MHz plus 48 MHz USB, pin mapping on the 48-pin package, USB CDC console, RTC on the LSE crystal, the internal temperature sensor, ADC accuracy, DFU flashing and recovery, or debugging why something on the board does not work.

# WeAct "Black Pill" — STM32F411CEU6

Board-specific firmware knowledge. The two reference files hold the detail — read the one you need
rather than guessing, because most of the failure modes below are silent (the board runs, just
wrongly).

- `reference/board-hardware.md` — complete hardware reference: pin map for the 48-pin package with
  every alternate function, power tree, memory map, boot modes, **plus** a full development guide
  (Part II: §12 PlatformIO, §13 bring-up order, §14 peripheral cookbook, §15 F4/M4 gotchas,
  §16 flashing and recovery, §17 pitfall table).
- `reference/recipes.md` — copy-paste-ready code: `platformio.ini`, `board.h`, the clock tree, RTC on
  the LSE crystal, the calibrated temperature sensor, the complete USB CDC stack.
- `template/` — a **complete working project** that builds and flashes, plus a scaffolding script.
  It is where every recipe was extracted from; see `template/README.md`.

Check these before writing code — each one produces a failure that looks like something else.
