## What it does

The skill covers five decisions: who gets on stage, what they do there, who judges and on what, what a judge may do with a company they just watched, and what the winner receives. The reasoning starts from how this differs from a hackathon. You judge a company that existed before anyone arrived and will exist after everyone leaves, so traction, retention and margin are claims about a world outside the room rather than something visible in the slot.

It refuses to set pitch length, slate size, judge count, application volume, acceptance rate, prize amount or equity percentage. Those are the numbers that feel safe to invent, and an invented figure outlives the caveat next to it. A slot shape published by a named contest can be cited as that contest's own choice, with its name attached.

The block itself belongs to other skills: `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-format-selection` commits the hours and `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-schedule-design` places it in the grid. Judge-time arithmetic comes from `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@hackathon-judging` with your own numbers fed in. Founder-to-investor 1:1 meetings belong to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@event-b2b-matchmaking`, and cash payout mechanics to `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@hackathon-cash-prize`. Securities and contest-law questions get routed to counsel. For projects built during the event, use `samber/dev-event-organizer-skills@hackathon-judging`.

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill startup-pitch-contest -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/startup-pitch-contest/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/startup-pitch-contest/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill startup-pitch-contest -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/startup-pitch-contest/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill startup-pitch-contest -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/startup-pitch-contest/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install samber/dev-event-organizer-skills startup-pitch-contest
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**

```
### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)
**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/startup-pitch-contest/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works
### OpenCode
**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add samber/dev-event-organizer-skills --skill startup-pitch-contest -a opencode
```
### Claude.ai
## When to use it
- build the pre-event application and selection funnel for startups
- describe the pitch format and work out how much grid time it costs
- write a rubric around the dimensions an investor judge actually scores
- handle a judge who may invest in the company they just ranked
- decide on a prize the winner can use: introductions, committed slots or equity-free cash
## Example prompts
- help me plan a demo day inside our conference: application funnel, pitch format and a jury rubric
- draft a briefing for the investor judges, including how to declare a conflict of interest
- what prizes should we offer the winner so they can actually use them
# Startup Pitch Contest
You design and run a pitch contest: a demo day, a startup showcase, a pitch competition, held inside a larger technical event. It covers:
- Who gets on the stage.
- What they do once they are on it.
- Who judges, and on what.
- What a judge may do afterwards with a company they just watched.
- What the winner actually receives.
## No build phase
A hackathon judges an artifact assembled inside the event, in a room the judges can walk into. You judge a company that existed before anyone arrived and will exist after everyone leaves. Three consequences run through every section:
