## What it does

The skill walks through stateless authentication in Spring Boot end to end: issuing access and refresh tokens with JJWT 0.12.6, validating signatures, pulling claims, and locking down methods with `@PreAuthorize`. It starts at the build file — Maven or Gradle dependencies — and ends at a working `SecurityFilterChain`, with reference files holding the full configuration.

Two token transports get separate treatment: the `Authorization: Bearer` header and an HttpOnly cookie. Each has its own `OncePerRequestFilter` variant, plus refresh token rotation and revocation through a blacklist for logout. For roles and permissions there are rules like `hasRole('ADMIN')` and `hasAuthority('USER_READ')`, and a custom `PermissionEvaluator` for checks against domain objects.

The signing secret comes from the `JWT_SECRET` environment variable, and the sample config ships a placeholder value. Leave that placeholder in production and anyone can mint a token with whatever authorities they like — worth fixing right after install. The patterns target Spring Boot 3.5.x and Spring Security 6.x; older releases use a different API.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill spring-boot-security-jwt -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/spring-boot-security-jwt/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/spring-boot-security-jwt/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill spring-boot-security-jwt -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/spring-boot-security-jwt/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill spring-boot-security-jwt -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/spring-boot-security-jwt/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit spring-boot-security-jwt
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/spring-boot-security-jwt/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill spring-boot-security-jwt -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --path plugins/developer-kit-java/skills/spring-boot-security-jwt
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/spring-boot-security-jwt/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit --skill spring-boot-security-jwt -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/giuseppe-trisciuoglio/developer-kit/tree/HEAD/plugins/developer-kit-java/skills/spring-boot-security-jwt/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- wire up access and refresh token issuance with JJWT
- configure `SecurityFilterChain` without server sessions
- split access by roles and by individual permissions
- read a token from the Authorization header or an HttpOnly cookie
- revoke tokens on logout and rotation

## Example prompts
- Implement JWT authentication in my Spring Boot project
- Set up `@PreAuthorize` with a permission check on a domain object
- Write a filter that reads the token from an HttpOnly cookie

# Spring Boot JWT Security

JWT authentication and authorization patterns for Spring Boot 3.5.x using Spring Security 6.x and JJWT. Covers token generation, validation, refresh strategies, RBAC/ABAC, and OAuth2 integration.

## Overview

This skill provides implementation patterns for stateless JWT authentication in Spring Boot applications. It covers the complete authentication flow including token generation with JJWT 0.12.6, Bearer/cookie-based authentication, refresh token rotation, and method-level authorization with `@PreAuthorize` expressions.

Key capabilities:
- Access and refresh token generation with configurable expiration
- Bearer token and HttpOnly cookie authentication strategies
- Integration with Spring Data JPA and OAuth2 providers
- RBAC with role/permission-based `@PreAuthorize` rules
- Token revocation and blacklisting for logout/rotation
