## What it does

Six article formats are covered: game preview, live report, post-game write-up, team analysis, player profile and daily roundup. You do not have to name the format; the skill reads the context of your question and picks one. Before writing, it collects data through `sports-skills` modules for football, NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, college football and basketball, tennis, F1 and golf.

Inside the skill are a command-routing guide and two reference files: `references/api-reference.md` with the exact calls per article type, and `references/article-templates.md` with the narrative structure of each format. Team, event and player IDs get resolved through separate calls rather than guessed. Independent calls run in parallel. When an endpoint fails, the section is dropped from the article instead of invented.

Scores and statistics come only from a confirmed CLI call. That is the hard limit here: without the `sports-skills` package installed, the skill produces nothing. Raw data with no journalistic text is a different job — reach for `nfl-data` or `nba-data` directly. Searching third-party news belongs to `sports-news`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**

npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill sports-reporter -a claude-code
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sports-reporter/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sports-reporter/
### Codex
1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill sports-reporter -a codex
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sports-reporter/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/
### Cursor
1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill sports-reporter -a cursor
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
### GitHub Copilot
1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install machina-sports/sports-skills sports-reporter
```
2. **Manually: put the files in place**
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sports-reporter/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add machina-sports/sports-skills --skill sports-reporter -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

## When to use it
- draft a game preview with recent form and injuries
- write a post-game report with the final score and stats
- break down a team's season: standings, form, injuries
- build a player profile from current-season numbers
- round up every game played today

## Example prompts
- write a preview of Flamengo vs Palmeiras tomorrow
- how did Real Madrid's game go yesterday?
- player profile: Vinicius Jr stats this season
