## What it does

This skill supplies coding agents with patterns for integrating browser-based Spline scenes. It covers scene architecture, detailing lights, cameras, state-based transition systems, and event triggers like hover, click, or scroll.

Implementation patterns rely on `@splinetool/react-spline` and `@splinetool/runtime`. The documentation shows how to capture scene instances via `useRef`, locate meshes with `findObjectByName`, and update properties such as `position`, `rotation`, and `material.color` directly from React handlers.

Using this setup requires an exported `.splinecode` URL or file generated in Spline. When granular control over custom WebGL shaders is mandatory, pure Three.js or React Three Fiber fits better than Spline's visual workflow.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill spline-interactive -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/spline-interactive/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/spline-interactive/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill spline-interactive -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/spline-interactive/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill spline-interactive -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/spline-interactive/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install freshtechbro/claudedesignskills spline-interactive
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/spline-interactive/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill spline-interactive -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --path plugins/bundles/authoring-motion/skills/spline-interactive
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/spline-interactive/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add freshtechbro/claudedesignskills --skill spline-interactive -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/freshtechbro/claudedesignskills/tree/HEAD/plugins/bundles/authoring-motion/skills/spline-interactive/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- embed exported Spline 3D scenes into React components
- handle mouse hover and click events on specific 3D objects
- manipulate object positions, rotations, and colors via React state
- trigger state-based transitions and animations programmatically

## Example prompts
- Embed a Spline scene into a React component using @splinetool/react-spline
- Handle onSplineMouseDown events to detect clicks on a 3D button
- Show how to rotate a 3D object programmatically on button click in Spline

# Spline Interactive - Browser-Based 3D Design and Animation

## Overview

Spline is a browser-based 3D design and animation platform that enables creators to build interactive 3D experiences without requiring code or specialized software knowledge. It provides a collaborative visual editor for designing, animating, and exporting 3D scenes across multiple platforms.

**Key Features**:
- Visual 3D modeling with parametric shapes, extrusion, and boolean operations
- State-based animation system with timeline controls
- Interactive event system (mouse, keyboard, collision, scroll)
- Multiple export options (React components, web code, public URLs)
- Real-time collaboration with team libraries
- AI-powered generation (3D from text, textures, style transfer)
- Built-in physics and particle systems

**When to Use This Skill**:
- Creating 3D web experiences without writing Three.js code
- Designing interactive product showcases or configurators
- Prototyping 3D UI/UX concepts visually
- Building marketing pages with 3D elements
- Collaborating with designers on 3D content
- Exporting scenes for React or vanilla JS integration

**Alternatives**:
- **Three.js** (threejs-webgl): For developers who prefer code-first approach and need maximum control
- **Babylon.js** (babylonjs-engine): For game-focused projects with built-in physics
- **React Three Fiber** (react-three-fiber): For React developers who want to build 3D with JSX

## Core Concepts

### 1. Scene Structure

Spline organizes projects into scenes containing:
- **Objects**: 3D models, shapes, text, images
- **Lights**: Directional, point, spot lights
- **Cameras**: Orbital, perspective, orthographic
- **Events**: Interaction triggers
- **States**: Animation keyframes

### 2. Components System

Reusable elements that can be:
- Created from any object or group
- Instantiated multiple times
- Updated across all instances
- Overridden per instance

### 3. State-Based Animation

Animations are defined as transitions between states:
- **Default State**: Initial appearance
- **Additional States**: Target appearances
- **Events**: Triggers that cause state transitions
- **Transitions**: Duration, easing, properties
