## What it does

This skill transforms unstructured process notes into structured Standard Operating Procedures written at a 5th-grade reading level. If invoked with arguments, it begins execution right away. If no arguments are provided, it replies with a prompt waiting for the user to describe the workflow. The skill first checks for `FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md` in the project root to pull brand voice, company context, and tooling information.

When critical details are missing, it asks up to five clarifying questions using the `AskUserQuestion` tool in batches of two or three. The generated SOP enforces strict guidelines: sentences capped at 10-15 words, one action per step starting with an imperative verb, and expected outcomes after key steps. The finished document includes prerequisites, measurable quality checks, a troubleshooting table for failure modes, and version history.

The skill relies strictly on user input and never invents steps, which means missing workflow stages will stall complete generation until clarified.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill sop-creator -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/sop-creator/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/sop-creator/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill sop-creator -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/sop-creator/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill sop-creator -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/sop-creator/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install ognjengt/founder-skills sop-creator
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/sop-creator/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill sop-creator -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/ognjengt/founder-skills --path skills/sop-creator
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/sop-creator/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ognjengt/founder-skills --skill sop-creator -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/ognjengt/founder-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/sop-creator/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- convert rough workflow notes into standard operating procedures
- document onboarding steps for new team members
- build troubleshooting tables for common process failures
- define measurable quality checks for recurring tasks

## Example prompts
- Turn our weekly newsletter publishing steps into a clear SOP
- Create a step-by-step SOP for handling customer refund requests
- Document the deployment checklist using our current staging procedure

# SOP Creator

## Purpose
Transform unstructured process descriptions into clear, actionable Standard Operating Procedures written at a 5th-grade reading level.

---

## Execution Logic

**Check $ARGUMENTS first to determine execution mode:**

### If $ARGUMENTS is empty or not provided:
Respond with:
"sop-creator loaded, describe the process you want to document"

Then wait for the user to provide their process description in the next message.

### If $ARGUMENTS contains content:
Proceed immediately to Task Execution (skip the "loaded" message).

---

## Task Execution

When process description is available (either from initial $ARGUMENTS or follow-up message):

### 1. Check for Business Context
Check if `FOUNDER_CONTEXT.md` exists in the project root.
- **If it exists:** Read it and use the business context to personalize your output (company name, brand voice, industry specifics, audience, tools used).
- **If it doesn't exist:** Proceed using defaults from "Defaults & Assumptions".

### 2. Analyze Initial Input
From the user's initial description, extract what's available:
- Process name or title
- Who performs this process (role/skill level)
- Tools or systems involved
- Expected outcome or end state
- Any compliance or quality requirements
- Critical steps mentioned

### 3. Ask Clarifying Questions (If Needed)
**Use AskUserQuestion tool** to gather missing critical information. Ask a maximum of 5 questions, but fewer is better — stop as soon as you have enough to create a complete SOP.

**Question Bank (priority order):**

| # | Question | Why it matters | Skip if... |
|---|----------|----------------|------------|
| 1 | What is the exact process you want documented? | Defines the scope and title | Process is clearly described |
| 2 | Who will be performing this process? (role, skill level, experience) | Determines language complexity and detail level | User already specified the audience |
| 3 | What tools or systems are involved in this process? | Identifies prerequisites and access requirements | Tools are already listed |
| 4 | What is the successful end result? How do you know the process is done correctly? | Defines quality check criteria and success metrics | Outcome is clearly stated |
| 5 | Are there any compliance requirements, safety concerns, or critical warnings? | Ensures important cautions are included | No regulatory or safety concerns |

**Question strategy:**
- Ask 2-3 questions per batch using AskUserQuestion
```
