# slides-polish

This skill runs a page-by-page review over a finished deck and fixes fonts, text-frame overflow and layout drift. Handy when the slides are nearly done but look uneven.

## What it does

The skill works on a deck you already have — Beamer (`.tex` + `.pdf`) or PPTX. It does not rewrite content: claims, numbers, citations, author names and figure captions stay as they are. What changes is typography and layout — font size, text-frame bounds, callout style, spacing around em dashes, alignment across pages.

Here is how it runs. Each page is rendered to PNG and sent to Codex MCP in its own fresh thread, together with a reference PDF. Fresh context per page matters because a reviewer otherwise anchors on earlier fixes and stops noticing new ones. The skill then applies surgical edits through `python-pptx` or in the Beamer source and repeats the pass until the slides match the reference in visual weight.

A reference PDF is required. Without one the skill asks for a path instead of quietly falling back to a preset. The PPTX path needs `python-pptx>=0.6`, page rendering needs `pdftoppm` or `mutool draw`, and PPTX-to-PDF conversion needs `soffice`. If no page renderer is available, work stops — reviewing text alone gives weak feedback. Your original file is never overwritten: edits go to `<input-stem>_polished.<ext>`, and a snapshot is kept as `<input-stem>_pre_polish.<ext>`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill slides-polish -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/slides-polish/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/slides-polish/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill slides-polish -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/slides-polish/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill slides-polish -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/slides-polish/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep slides-polish
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/slides-polish/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill slides-polish -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/slides-polish
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/slides-polish/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill slides-polish -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep/tree/HEAD/skills/slides-polish/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- bump PPTX fonts to projector-readable size
- kill italic style leaks in headings and captions
- fix text-frame overflow on a slide
- match a deck against a reference PDF by visual weight
- catch per-slide layout drift

## Example prompts
- /slides-polish talk_pptx/talk.pptx — reference: talk_beamer/main.pdf — style: why-rf
- /slides-polish talk_beamer/ — reference: ./reference_talk.pdf — style: generic — effort: max
- /slides-polish talk.pptx — reference: ./why_rf_2025.pdf — interactive

# Slides Polish: Per-Page Codex Review + Targeted Layout Fixes

> **Before each reviewer slot**, follow [Selectable Reviewers](../shared-references/reviewer-backends.md):
> resolve invocation → `.aris/reviewer.json` → Claude Code default (Codex MCP)
> with `reviewer_route.py` through the canonical helper resolver, preserving this
> slot's tier, fresh contexts, source/image inputs and deterministic gates.
> Codex examples/pins below apply only to `backend=codex`; other routes use their
> own first-call/reply contract. Save the route and actual returned identity;
> unavailable selections are `REVIEW_UNAVAILABLE`. Classify acceptance from actual
> families/completion/scope. Forward invocation reviewer/model/effort overrides
> to reviewer-bearing children. Generation workers are unchanged.

Polish a generated slide deck — Beamer (`.tex` + `.pdf`) and/or PPTX — by
running **per-page Codex review** against a reference visual and applying
surgical fixes (font scaling, text-frame resize, callout-box style, em-dash
spacing, anonymity placeholders, Chinese-font hints, italic style leaks)
until each slide reads at the same visual weight as the reference.
