## What it does

The skill works against your slide system in `${SLIDE_DECK_REPO:-$HOME/code/your-slide-deck-site}/src/app/slides/`. It writes TypeScript `Slide[]` arrays from your own primitives — `Eyebrow`, `Heading`, `Accent`, `Body`, `BulletList`, `Divider`, `TwoCol`, `GradientText` — and cycles through 12 brand gradients. There is no separate HTML pipeline; the brand lives in the React components.

Four modes. `new` drafts a deck from a brief: it asks for topic, audience, length, density, CTA and slug in one pass, then pitches three narrative angles — safe, bold, wildcard — and you pick one. From there it outlines sections, expands them into slides and writes 3–5 lines of speaker notes per slide. `update` modifies an existing deck with overflow guards, `ppt` turns a legacy PPTX into a React deck, and `export` snapshots the rendered deck through Playwright into standalone HTML, PDF or a Vercel URL.

Density is chosen before generation and shapes everything after it. Speaker-led means one idea per slide and big type; reading-first means 4–6 bullets and slides that stand on their own for async review. Files land in `src/app/slides/<slug>/`: `layout.tsx` with title metadata and `page.tsx` with the deck. The closing slide footer pulls `<AUTHOR_HANDLE>` and `<AUTHOR_SITE>` from `${MAKERSKILLS_CONFIG:-$HOME/.config/makerskills}/slide-deck`, so set those before you generate or the placeholders stay in the output.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill slide-deck -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/slide-deck/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/slide-deck/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill slide-deck -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/slide-deck/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill slide-deck -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/slide-deck/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install coreyhaines31/makerskills slide-deck
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/slide-deck/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill slide-deck -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills --path skills/slide-deck
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/slide-deck/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add coreyhaines31/makerskills --skill slide-deck -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/coreyhaines31/makerskills/tree/HEAD/skills/slide-deck/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- turn rough notes into a full deck
- edit an existing deck without overflowing slides
- convert a legacy PPTX into React components
- export a finished deck to PDF for sharing
- write the spoken talk for every slide

## Example prompts
- /slide-deck new marketing-like-an-engineer
- /slide-deck update marketing-like-an-engineer
- /slide-deck export marketing-like-an-engineer pdf

description: When you want to draft, update, convert, or export a slide deck for a React/Next.js slide system (${SLIDE_DECK_REPO:-$HOME/code/your-slide-deck-site}/src/app/slides/). Writes TypeScript Slide[] arrays using your primitives (Eyebrow, Heading, Accent, Body, BulletList, Divider, TwoCol, GradientText), 12 cycling brand gradients, optional sections for "where am I" context, and speaker notes. Inspired by zarazhangrui/frontend-slides — "show, don't tell" for narrative (presents 3 angles, you pick) plus density modes (speaker-led vs reading-first). Four modes — new (draft from brief), update (modify existing, with overflow guards), ppt (convert legacy PPTX → React deck), export (Playwright snapshot existing React deck to standalone HTML, PDF, or Vercel URL — keeps brand). Triggers on "/slide-deck," "/slides new," "/slides export," "/slides update," "/slides ppt," "draft a deck," "deck for [topic]," "talk on [topic]," "keynote on [topic]," "internal deck for [audience]," "convert this pptx," "export this deck."

# /slide-deck — Draft, update, convert, and export branded React decks

Authors React/TypeScript decks for `${SLIDE_DECK_REPO:-$HOME/code/your-slide-deck-site}/src/app/slides/<slug>/page.tsx` using the user's slide system. Branded output (no separate HTML pipeline) — when portable HTML/PDF is needed, export mode snapshots the rendered React deck via Playwright so the output is brand-perfect.

## Modes (pick one before Step 1)

| Mode | Invocation | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| **new** | `/slide-deck new <topic>` (default) | Draft a new deck from a brief |
| **update** | `/slide-deck update <slug>` | Modify an existing deck (with overflow guards) |
| **ppt** | `/slide-deck ppt <path-to-pptx>` | Convert a legacy PPTX into a React deck |
| **export** | `/slide-deck export <slug> [html\|pdf\|vercel]` | Snapshot a deck to HTML, PDF, or Vercel URL |

For `update`, `ppt`, and `export`, skip to the corresponding mode section below. For `new`, continue through Steps 1–8.

---

## Step 1 — Capture the brief (ask all at once)

Ask in one structured message. Don't round-trip on each.

1. **Topic / title** — what's the deck about?
2. **Audience** — who's in the room? (technical / executive / mixed / clients) Push for specificity: "founders" is too broad; "B2B SaaS founders at MicroConf" is workable.
