# slack-to-teams

Reads an existing Slack bot and walks you through porting it to Teams or building for both platforms at once. Useful once the bot works and has to go wider.

## What it does

The skill works as a router. It first decides whether you have a codebase or are starting fresh, then sends you down the matching branch. For a new bot it asks which platforms to support: Slack and Teams together, Slack only, or Teams only. For an existing project it runs four analyses in parallel — language, current platform, features, architecture — and picks expert files from the results.

Behind the router sit more than a hundred micro-expert files, split across Slack, Teams and the bridge between them. Language matters here. TypeScript and JavaScript get the full set, Python adapts the same patterns, Java and C# cover one platform with an SDK and the other over REST, and Go, Ruby and Rust go REST-only on both. When a technology in your project has no expert yet, the skill drafts one from a template and wires it into routing. It also writes a `PLAN.md` at the project root with the platform, features and loaded experts.

This is a sub-skill of `microsoft-365-agents-toolkit`. ATK CLI setup, local testing, cloud deploy and troubleshooting live in the parent skill, so pulling this one in for plain Teams work without Slack is the wrong move. Block Kit to Adaptive Cards conversion, plus identity, events, files and transport bridging, are handled here.

## Requirements
- Works with: Slack, Azure, AWS

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill slack-to-teams -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/slack-to-teams/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/slack-to-teams/

### Codex

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/slack-to-teams/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/slack-to-teams/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install microsoft/skills slack-to-teams
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/slack-to-teams/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

**Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/microsoft/skills --path .github/plugins/microsoft-365-agents-toolkit/skills/teams-app-developer/slack-to-teams
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/slack-to-teams/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/microsoft/skills/tree/HEAD/.github/plugins/microsoft-365-agents-toolkit/skills/teams-app-developer/slack-to-teams/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- port a working Slack bot to Teams without a rewrite
- add a second platform to a bot already running on one
- convert Block Kit views into Adaptive Cards
- bridge identity and OAuth between Slack and Teams
- pick an approach for a language with an SDK on only one platform

## Example prompts
- Analyze my Slack bot and lay out a migration plan for Teams
- Add Teams support to my `@slack/bolt` bot, start with the project analysis
- Build a bot for Slack and Teams together, begin with the pre-task interview

# Slack to Teams Expert System

A routed expert system with 100+ micro-expert files for migrating Slack bots to Teams and building cross-platform bots.

> **Parent skill:** For ATK CLI setup and routing, see [../SKILL.md](../SKILL.md). For local testing, see [../test-playground/test-playground.md](../test-playground/test-playground.md) or [../test-teams/test-teams.md](../test-teams/test-teams.md). For cloud deploy, see [../provision-deploy/provision-deploy.md](../provision-deploy/provision-deploy.md). For troubleshooting, see [../troubleshoot/troubleshoot.md](../troubleshoot/troubleshoot.md).

## When to Use

- Building a new Slack bot, Teams bot, or dual-platform bot
- Adding Teams support to an existing Slack bot (or vice versa)
- Migrating a bot between platforms
- Deploying a bot to Azure or AWS
- Configuring AI model providers for a bot
- Converting UI between Block Kit and Adaptive Cards
- Bridging identity, events, files, or transport between platforms
- Making a Teams bot project compatible with Microsoft Agents Toolkit (m365agents.yml, env/, appPackage placeholders)

## Procedure

### Step 1: Determine project type

Assess whether the developer has an existing codebase or is starting fresh.

- **New project** → go to [New Project Flow](#new-project-flow)
- **Existing project** → go to [Existing Project Flow](#existing-project-flow)

---

### New Project Flow

#### 1a: Platform selection

Ask the developer which platform(s) to support:
- Slack + Teams (dual-platform)
- Slack only
- Teams only

#### 1b: Load the expert system

1. Read [experts/index.md](../experts/index.md) — the root router.
2. Execute the **pre-task interview** defined in that file.
3. Route based on platform choice:
   - **Slack + Teams** → Read [experts/bridge/index.md](../experts/bridge/index.md). Load [cross-platform-advisor](../experts/bridge/cross-platform-advisor-ts.md).
   - **Slack only** → Read [experts/slack/index.md](../experts/slack/index.md).
   - **Teams only** → Read [experts/teams/index.md](../experts/teams/index.md).

#### 1c: Architecture setup
```
